Were the driver andsoftware installed properly? I say uninstall both and let System Update do the rest. It worked for me.

Did you install the authentec drivers from windows update before installing the lenovo fp software? If so, uninstall both and then install the lenovo fp software. It should install the required drivers plus software for the fingerprint reader.

Removing the driver and fingerprint software, rebooting and installing the fingerprint software from Lenovo's site, seemed like a sound plan. Unfortunately, on our new T400S with a (clean-install) upgrade from Vista to Win7 32 Ultimate, it did not restore the fingerprint login function. During install, "Did not find the primary sensor" error message appeared. I tried this again with the BIOS setting INTERNAL sensor as the primary. Still failed. The fingerprint sensor and login function worked flawlessly with Vista. Any other suggestions?
(BTW, someone reported on a Lenovo forum that Lenovo was unable to solve this problem and was said to be working on a solution.)

Just passing on the information which worked on my T400. Tried it again just a couple of minutes ago. WU had installed the authentec drivers plus software. Uninstalled both using the control panel and removed drivers from device manager for the biometric device. Used scan for hardware changes in device manager to scan for the fingerprint sensor. Stopped windows from updating the drivers from windows update and installed the lenovo fingerprint sensor software. Rebooted the system and I was able to enroll my fingerprints. I am not sure if this will work for the T400s but should work on the T400.

Miner, thanks for sharing what worked for you and taking the trouble to repeat the procedure. HERE'S SOME NEWS FOR OTHERS STILL TRYING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM:

I keep WU on manual, being wary of inadequately tested "fixes." But I just checked and found Win 7 has a brand new fingerprint driver update. I backed up and installed it. Lo, a SECOND Fingerprint sensor entry appeared in the control panel. The new title omitted the word "notebook." The old entry still fails to engage the sensor but the new one does! And now fingerprint login is restored. Verily, the Redmond elves worked late on Christmas eve.

I was inspired by someone's post to uninstall the Lenovo software and see what Windows 7 could do on its own and that was my solution. So I went to the control panel, then to the "Programs", then to uninstall a program, and uninstalled the Lenovo AuthenTec fingerprint software. I did NOT uninstall or remove the driver previously installed by the Lenovo fingerprint software. I rebooted. I then went back into the control panel, then to Hardware and Sound, then to Biometric Devices. There I see "AuthenTec AES2810, not enrolled and a link, I don't remember exactly because it changed, but something like "Use your fingerprint scanner". I clicked on that link, read some info, clicked continue, and it launched some AuthenTec TrueSuite Start software which allowed me to enroll my fingerprints which worked great to log into windows. Of course, this doesn't provide integration with the Lenovo security suite but who cares. I never liked it anyways and prefer Lastpass with a Yubico key as a secure password vault (works on all my computers).

Hope this helps someone and thanks for everyones posts!
