I have an annoying issue with my r61i. If i'm on the internet, leave the computer for a while and return, I get locked out of Windows. I enter my password, but then I'm unable to use the computer after that. The wireless connection is lost, my USB wireless mouse won't work (the ultranav touchpad does work), programs won't run or even open and just getting the computer to restart takes several minutes. Otherwise I have to shut it down manually with the power button. I can open the Control Panel but double-clicking on any icons inside give me an error that says "insufficient resources available to run this application." General navigation around Windows is very slow, hourglass on forever.
What's up? I've since unchecked the box marked "require password upon resume from standby" in Control Panel-Power Options-Advanced.

still doesn't work right. I left the computer overnight open to an internet page to test.
When I returned, the mouse worked fine, but I got the pop-up window stating the computer has been locked and required my password or administrator password. I entered my password. Even though I had a wireless connection I couldn't navigate around Internet Explorer, all I could do was close the program. Then trying to open Internet Explorer, I got the default error IE page, even though the wireless connection icon said I was connected.
Restarted the computer. Got the Ending Program pop-up, windows trying to end something called tpfnf7. Could not end so I had to click on End Now. Windows took forever after that to finally close and restart. Everything ok after restart.
All I want to do is to be able to walk away from the laptop for a while and resume IE browsing when I return, without having to restart it. -
Do you need the computer to prompt you for a password when you return? Is this at home or at work?
A workaround I would suggest is to disable that password prompt. You can do so by opening up your Power Options in Control Panel and move to the advanced tab. You will see a checkbox for it. Uncheck that. -

seems to be working OK now, but I still get prompted for the fingerprint reader.

Where and when do you get prompted for the FP reader?

Today, I left IE open to a random page. When I returned, I saw my page and a window over it titled Unlock Computer. I had to enter my Windows password, and upon doing so IE was not navigable, and my mouse would not work either. Closed IE using the touchpad, clicked Control Panel/Power Options and was unable to open Power Options. Instead, I got an error message for c:/windows/system32/rundll32.exe "insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service."
Closed Control Panel, clicked start button to restart computer, and instead was prompted with the Log off/Switch user window, instead of the Restart/ Turn off window. Clicked Log off, took forever, ended up just manually restarting using the Power button. After restarting, I went to display properties/screen saver and unchecked the box for "return to welcome screen upon resume" Don't know if this willl do anything. -
so far so good

I didn't notice whether you mentioned XP or Vista, probably XP. If Vista, you might make sure the option to 'require a password...' setting in the advanced settings for your power plan in power options is not set to yes... but that behavior is not normal. You should be able to do what you were doing without that. It's possible it could be due to some type of malware, but you can do some research on tpfnf7 HERE, which could possibly have something to do with your problem.

well its back. This time, trying to restart yielded the Ending Program window, with the program in question being tphkmgr. I had to end it by clicking on End Now, and still was unable to restart the computer. The furthest I got was my desktop with no icons on it. Never did shut down all the way and restart, had to push the Power button.
My mouse was dead, no wireless connection, attempted to connect, windows said it couldn't find one, couldn't open any programs due to "insufficient system resources exist....." yada yada yada
I will run Spybot and Adware 2007 to see if that helps.
