Just got my new t400s. Seriously great piece of computing. Very happy except
I accidentally ordered the lenovo branded wireless lan card. I need one of the intel ones (8100, or 8300). Pulling the laptop case off reveals only two leads on lenovo card plus another three leads tapped down. I presume these are for optional wan card.
I see a number on ebay and other online shops. Some say they are not ibm/hp compatible. I would have thought any half height Mini PCI express card would do.
Any suggestions on if these will work or should I commit double to pay lenovo? (eg. thinkparts

these cards you want to order are not white listed in the bios, which means it wouldn't work, unless you modify the bios (which may or may not work) and definitely void any warranty.

I doubt that you will be able to use other cards than the original lenovo branded ones (with FRU) without BIOS-modification. There should be a whitelist.

I should add that the T400s is already prewired with three antennas, so I'd recommend just getting the 5300 rather than the 5100 (which only uses two of the antennas). If you're spending the money, you might as well get the card that will give you a slightly better range and possibly more speed, depending on your situation.

thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of the whole 'white list' issue. Also good to know that the extra wires are there in the t400s for the 5300. Guess I'll grab one of those.
