I'm looking at the X61 and I'm confused why wireless n is disabled.
Can anyone tell me why? And can it be manually enabled?
-
Is your router set to transmit to n?
-
That has nothing to do with the subject stop spamming your link -
It has nothing to do with my router, I haven't bought it yet.
On lenovo's site it says "n-disabled", yet it uses Intel 4965. :S -

When I read wireless n disabled on the lenovo website I too wondered what it ment.
I phoned Lenovo and they told me that by defalt, there is is a bios setting that disables wireless n to save battery power. If you wish to use it you have to go into the bios and activate it.
That is what I was told by one Lenovo rep. It's possible he didn't know what he was talking about. -
Are you sure it's disabled? There is a release note for the 4965AGN driver 11.1.1.11 that says N-mode will not work unless AES encryption is used or encryption is disabled.

To the original poster,
I assume you are looking at the lenovo canada website. The first time I called lenovo canada (a few weeks ago) they said wireless n was dissabled in the bios and could be activated at any time. The rep I spoke to todayd said the wireless n is disabled on the 4965 intel wireless car and to activate it you'll need to install a new wireless card. She made no mention of weather or not the wireless n card would require a different antenna.
So I guess the moral is, as often seems to be the case, take what you learn from lenovo sales reps with a huge grain of salt. -
Thanks for the info. I believe the 4965 card on the x61 indeed has 11n permanently disabled. (I have no idea why they did that)
I ended up buying a Dell Vostro 1400. -
Has anyone received their notebook with the Intel 4965 11n disabled?
-
When lenovo has the same chipset but says "n disabled" they likely mean that you do have the same chipset, however, you only have TWO antennas (required for abg) and are lacking the third antenna, which is required for n.
Dipity: you downgraded your choice of machines simply because of the wireless? -
I bought the laptop before the decriptions changed to n disabled. I am now in discussions to get either a replacement card OR a refund. Lenovo in the UK do not seems to have a good explanation why it is disabled.

Where are folks seeing the N disabled bit? Description from the US site:
Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 4965AGN (supporting Centrino Pro) [add $21.25] [Lenovo recommended]
Save $20 on this upgrade for a limited time.
Intel's site says you can't use WEP and must use AES. Getting ready to reconfigure to test. -
The AES part is true - I can only get a link in N with my 4965AGN if AES encryption is enabled. Also, the Intel card will only give you 130mbps max. Linksys PCCARD in same machine gives me 270 mbps and will use either AES or TKIP. Don't know why (or care really).

Anyway, I don't have N router so I can't tell whether it is working or not. -
Until recently, November I think, the Lenovo Canada site sold thinkpads with the 4965 wireless card, but it stated that wireless N was disabled.
I think someone said the Lenovo UK site sold thinkpads with wireless N disabled as well. -
Well I tried everything today... WPA Personal, WPA2 Personal, AES, No Encryption. I never saw N mode. However, I saw many accounts on the web of the 4965 working. I'm guessing it's my WRT300N Version 1.0 router. Also upgraded to 11.5 drivers from Intel. Oh well.

Hi, i am from Germany. I has the T61 7663-13G or other name: ND 113GE,
this is a special model for students and has no n wlan: agn (n disabled).
There could be only three causes: no third wlan antenn, a card with disabled functions, or a third antenn, which is not pluged on.
Sorry for my bad english, but has anybody opened his TP, and looked inside, wether there are three wires? -
And before I forgot this: a good new year
-
I was able to open my x61 and check the part no. Fru 42T0873 which is an AG card with N disabled and noticed that there were 3 connectors on the mini pci card but only have 2 wire antenna which is a grey and black and no 3rd white wire for N. I was thinking of buying a lenovo 4965 AGN thru ebay but it seems i would be defeating the purpose of not having the antenna for N. Or i can get the 3rd wire antenna and plug it in the empty middle connector on wireless card but i am not sure if it would work. I am not quite sure what was lenovo's intention of disabling N maybe to save battery life?
wireless-n disabled on x61 (intel 4965)
