I have the boot order set properly in the BIOS, but I cannot get my x100e to boot from a usb optical drive. I've tried a couple different discs.

It will boot from a USB flash drive, but not an optical drive.

I manually select the optical drive in BIOS, instead of changing the boot process.

Not sure what you mean by "select" it. The only thing I can do in the BIOS that involves the optical drive is make sure it's in the boot order.

I believe it's called the Boot Menu. It's F12(In BIOS boot up) on my Ideapad, not sure if it is different for the x100e.

Just press enter when the thinkpad bios splashscreen is up. This gives you the boot option, no need to change the boot order in the bios.

Yeah, hitting Enter gives me a small menu where I can press F1 to enter the BIOS, F11 to diagnose or recover the system, and F12 to choose a temporary start up device. None of those give me the option to boot from the optical drive.

try a different usb port. Mine only seems to work on the left hand ports. The right hand port won't recognise my usb dvd drive unless its booted into windows.

I tried all three. Didn't seem to make any difference. Maybe it's something peculiar about my particular drive. It does work fine once an OS is loaded.

Alright, no worries. I got myself a 4gb flash drive and am installing Windows 7 that way.

ive used an optical drive to reinstall Windows 7 on my x100e before,it worked great

F12 goes straight to the boot menu without needing to go to the extra "Enter" menu
