I am a college student just looking for a plain netbook for using Illustrator, Winamp, Microsoft Office and possibly Fruity Loops.

The x100e goes for $440 on Newegg while the Asus 1201 is at $485.

Of course the Asus is more powerful and all but can the x100e run all those programs mentioned above solidly? I just like the x100e keyboard with pointy stick also matte screen.

    Thanks.

Office 2007 run fine on a netbook. Winamp is a given. Illustrator and FL might run a little sluggish, but I would assume it run well too.

Why not the X60 or X61? Either of those will offer you way more CPU power and if you're willing to spend $500, I'm guessing you can get a good one.

Maybe they run a bit too hot ? The X60 runs cooler I am told.
