not hard. it results from having competing flash players. If you google, and use the term "chrome" Flash player choppy stuttering etc... something like that you'll find. its a common ailment. if you have IE [you do] and Firefox, and anything else that would have loaded Flash, one of them needs to rule the roost.

its something like the following: the idea is you have to remove or disable all but one:
"I Had the same problem but i fixed it.I Went to chrome://plugins/ and disabled(Adobe Flash Player (2 files) - Version: 11,5,502,110
Shockwave Flash 11.5 r502)The Flash Player in brackets then I downloaded the newest version of flash player and this should fix the problem.I Think the problem is with the flash player thats already installed in google. The one I downloaded (Shockwave Flash Shockwave Flash 11.5 r502) Should Work

When You Open The Plug-ins The Location of it should say C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_11_5_502_110.dll
    (This One Should Be Enabled)

    Instead Of This
    C:\Documents and Settings\Lawrence Lockhart\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\23.0.1271.64\PepperFlash\pepflashplayer.dll
    (This One Should Be Disabled)

Also My Realplayer Download Sign That Appears On The Videos Stopped Showin After A While But It Came Back After I Did Whats Listed Above^^^^^^ Hope This Works"

Thanks for the help, but I don't even have Chrome installed, so I really can't see how this could help me.

the point is not chrome, per se, but multiple instances of flash things from multiple sources. google it.

    >> the point is not chrome, per se, but multiple instances of flash things from multiple sources. google it.

From what I can see above, the problem/solution you describe above is to configure Chrome not to use the new Pepper API based plugin (the Flash Player that comes bundled with Chrome) and instead use the old one designed for NPAPI. This might solve some issues in Chrome, but it is not in any way applicable for Firefox, since Firefox cannot use the new Pepper API at all. My Firefox installation is picking up the latest version of Flash and nothing else and there are no "multiple instances" to choose from, but if you have links that describes this problem for Firefox, please post them.

However, I have solved it now and for future reference I am posting it here. Recent versions of Firefox is running the flash runtime in a separate child process which is being wrapped with plugin-container.exe. Copying data with IPC between these processes (e.g. Flash is using the browser for networking) is quite CPU intensive for slower machines like the x120e. Making Firefox run Flash the old in-process way improved things a lot for me.

While at it I also disabled Adobe's new protected mode for Flash and I can now watch YouTube in 1080p without a single hickup on my x120e again.

You can try these fixes on your own by doing the following. Please note that the drawbacks are that a crash in Flash (and other plugins) will crash the whole browser and that Flash will run with the same rights as Firefox itself. I wouldn't recommend doing this on a more powerful machine (since it makes Flash more insecure), but it seems to be needed to make YouTube watchable on the x120e with the latest version of Firefox and Flash.

To force Firefox to run its plugins in-process
    ---------------------------------------------------
    1. Add the following environment variable to the system
    MOZ_DISABLE_OOP_PLUGINS=1

To configure the Flash runtime to not use the new protected mode
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    1. Open the file c:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg with an editor and add the following line
    ProtectedMode=0

    interesting.
congrats for fixing it but I'm puzzled as to why there are not a string of reports of similar issue.
I run Nightly x64, chrome, and ie10 among other things in the pile and none display any lag or stutter. I do nothing special to limit background processes... haven't had a reason to other than my usual OCD about keeping the crudware down to a bare minimum.

to help others, this link and the comments therein, refer to some of the same issues... I sure wish the tuber had specified which versions of things he/she is dealing with

You are absolutely correct. If I am the only one experiencing this, then my fix is probably not the correct solution. Yet it works for me, so I am quite satisfied at the moment, but there might be some other problem with my setup that I have now "masked" with this fix, so I will also try the "Tuber" fix and see if that helps.

Still, if there is any other user out there who is running the latest version of Firefox (18.0.1) together with the latest Flash (11.5.502.146), I would like to hear if you are having the same problem as I had or if your YouTube videos plays flawlessly in 1080p on the x120e.

    So please chime in.

Hey guys, got a strange issue, wondering if anyone else has encountered it

Basically, my audio keeps cutting out intermittently. Like i'll be watcing a video, and it goes silent. If i mute and unmute, the sound comes back, but will eventually cut out again.

Ive tried everything from changing drivers to reinstalling windows, nothing has worked. Any ideas?

need detail... you talking about video/audio on the laptop only, using the builtin speakers? if not, pls explain.
there are two audio devices installed and possibly a third soft device "microsoft high definition audio" but lets hope that one is not in the mix.
if you are seeing the problem onboard, have you tried HDMI-out to a hdtv or monitor with speakers?

not video related. Audio cuts out using onboard audio with built in speakers when listening to a continuous audio source (flash, mpeg, mp3, etc). Problem doesn't exist when using HDMI out.

audio device is the conexant one being used. AMD HD audio is the HDMI passthrough. no other audio devices are installed.

Update: Audio cutting out issue is because of heat. Running fan at full speed stops the problem. Going to open her up and clean out the dust and re-apply TIM. Hopefully that'll solve the problem and i wont have to run the fan at full tilt all the time.

that's a lotta heat! good fix, however. this makes me think of the R/R thermal paste idea again, but I must have won the lottery on mine - as long as vents are clear etc mine has really nice temp range.

    Speaking of heat!

X120e running Win8 with TPFanControl. Most of the time, the machine is cool and the fan is off.

Today, I took the essay portion of the Connecticut Bar Exam, using the X120e. The CT Bar uses Examsoft's Softest, like many universities around the country.

Three-quarters of the way through the exam, I noticed that the fan wasn't running at all. I also noted that the bottom of the machine was getting hot. Not just warm. When the exam was over and Softest released control of the machine, I had a look at TPFanControl's display:

    99C!

For several hours, at least, the machine was basically running flat out without active cooling, and the cpu could have boiled water. I suspect that Softest, which disables all kinds of connections in an attempt to isolate the test taker, messed either with the fan directly or with TPFanControl. FWIW, I once I noticed the bottom of the machine getting hot, I also noticed that I didn't hear a single computer fan in the room, and I think I would have heard something.

Anyway, does anyone else out there have experience with Softest and fans? Hopefully, this was the last time I'll need to run that product on my machine, but still...

    Wanted to update.

So although full fan speed fix's the audio cutting off, my system is not getting all that hot. Peaks out at about 72c if running HD flash or something (and that's on my matress).

Even still, after opening her up, and re applying TIM (no change in temps), and cleaning out any dust (hardly any) problem persists.

I'm hoping its a problem with the speakers and ordered a new speaker assembly off ebay. Will report back if it fix's the problem. If not, i guess i'm getting a new laptop :(

This has probably been my favorite laptop of all my laptops ive owned so far. Problem is last weekend my laptop suddenly started BSOD'ing. I was like ? Has all the i downloaded gotten me a virus?? so I reinstalled OS, still BSOD. Swapped out hdd, still same problem.

Then I installed hardware monitor and saw my temps hitting 97 degrees celsius:laugh: by just surfing the web. Since I really like this laptop, I decided to open it up and reapply some thermal paste. I was recommended NTHD or something like that, apparently its very low conductivity so its perfect for laptops. That dropped my temperatures by about 10 degrees celsius and it idled at around 83 degrees celsius while surfing.

So now my laptop doesn't BSOD anymore but going on youtube will still pressure the laptop to hit 94 degrees celsius, so i was like damn what else can I do? I found a guide online to under volt my cpu which had some good results. Now I surf on the internet at around 65-70 degrees celsius and it goes up to around 85 degrees celsius when stressed. Still the temperature is really high but my BSOD issue is all but solved. Any clues on why my temp is so high and what else I can do to fix?

70 is norm. I can see 85 under a 1080p load to an external hdtv/mon. in spikes that's not unusual. so if that's all you have, you have no worries.

for some reason, chrome heats up my sys more than other browsers. I'm beginning to wonder if I have a flash/shockwave conflict again. there's a little issue with having IE [in my case IE10] with its flash versions, and chrome with its.

    but just a check:
    - i'm sure you looked for trash/lint/etc
    - no funny noises from the fan
    - the fan oscillates up to peak, then quiets down when idling... right?
    - try a couple other utilities to make sure your sensor readings are translating correctly

the BSOD: Blue or Black? if Blue what were the error messages?

85-90 degrees celsius is normal? Well it peaks around 88 and stays there, but once i close the demanding program, the temperature drops off real quick, around 10 degrees in 45 seconds. Either way, its good news that im ok.

My main browser is chrome, but if IE is better for this netbook for some reason, i will be happy to switch over....

Yeah everything is pretty clean inside my laptop, I had to take it apart fully just to apply the thermal paste. I wish it were easier, it literally took 1.5 hours to do.

Im using a program called tpfancontrol, and it is set to smart mode. This means that at 75 degrees celsius and above the fan is on full blast. Anything below that to 60 degrees celsius, the fan speed is on minimal. And if the temperature is less than 60 degrees, then fan shuts off by itself completely. The rpm reading for this program must be glitchy, as I dont think the reading is correct. It shows a higher rpm reading at lower temperature (while the fan is very quiet) and shows a lower rpm reading at high temperatures (when the fan is very loud). Any recommended programs would be appreciated.

The BSOD is blue, i never wrote down the error but it said something about crash dump. Also i haven't seen it since the temperature issues were fixed.

    ok, several things.
in chrome, open Settings, then "advanced settings" [blue text thing near bottom]
then "Content Settings". Scroll down a bit and look for plug ins, then hit the link to open the "disable individual plug-ins" link. the first item on that list that pops up should be adobe shock/flash. if you have two entries there and the detail is identical, disable one of those. that will create serious overhead if left.
its a bug, of sorts. they should be checking it routinely but not.
once that's done you're ok but should check whenever you have had to update Flash PLayer or Shockwave in IE9/10 or FFox et al.

Blue screen is not typically associated with thermal overrun.
there should be [maybe... if we're lucky] a trail associated with some problem.
you can check the Event Logs by hitting start, right click "Computer" and select "Manage".
when that loads, select Event Viewer, then sub menu Windows Logs, and start with "System" under that one.
Look for Red marks indicating critical events. with luck there may be a trail there of a recurring item that caused a blue screen. if nothing red there, I would check Applications log secondarily.
There is also a crashdmp file probably on the root drive. if you want to analyze the crash data, see this thread and grab the freebee utils it mentions, follow along:
BlueScreen - Windows 7 shutdown and restarts at random times - Microsoft Community

I was checking the thermal paste thread that one of the x120e guys posted. he was saying, and others confirmed, a fairly consistent 10C drop after doing a good re-paste.

I noticed, for whatever reason, that I got slightly ... very slightly [like 2 degree] lower temps running flash 1080P high density content to my big screen using Firefox x64 vs Chrome. its small, but consistent. if running 720p [native onboard display] it would take a little less muscle, lower temp.

using conventional HDD or SSD? a small modern ssd [small meaning fewer GB] is a bit cooler, though some of the very latest 7200rpm top-ranked HDD's don't use a lot of power either. the consensus for now, though is ssd lowers the temp in the case a little. no effect on the apu temp, of course.

Other thoughts: something I have not investigated, just thinking out loud: I think the fan in this unit is pretty standard size. there are a lot of aftermarket fans that could work, and some are a LOT better than others. you might post something [heck I might... you chime in] in the Hardware upgrades folder. i'd be curious as to what a really well-designed fan could do. fins matter. bearings matter. motor matters....

    Final update: I give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sound will cut out (only using built in speakers) at around 72 degrees Celsius CPU temp regardless of

    -replacing the built in speakers
    -using different bios
-trying every OS from Ubuntu to XP to windows 7 x86 and x64
    -reapplying TIM and re-seating HSF
    changing/testing RAM modules induvidually
    and more

    Sound will not cut out

    -Using headphone jack
    -Using HDMI
-Using built in speakers and running fan at 100% even with CPU temp hitting 70's running Prime95 Small FFT

Guess its a case temp thing.

Giving it to my dad, ordered an X230. If someone finds a solution to this eventually, please let me know. PM or anything (i will edit this post if/when someone sends me a fix)

ps. if anyone needs a pair or X120e internal speakers, PM lol

I just wanted to post this somewhere so that it may help someone out. I've owned the x120e for 1year 2months. When Windows 8 came out I upgraded immediately, only to suddenly discover that most drivers/hotkeys weren't developed yet by Lenovo. I had hiccups here and there with things working and not working, hit or miss sometimes. This past week, both the touchpad and the joystick stopped working. I opened everything up and re-seated all of the cables. I had it so much apart that I was only 2 screws away from getting at the cpu. While I was in there, I popped off the heat sink, scraped away all of the cheap cruddy thermal paste and applied some extra artic silver that I had instead. (8-10c cooler now under load).
Back on track. After reseating everything, cleaning all the contacts, put it all back together, the touchpad and joystick still weren't working. The hotkey never worked for me under windows 8 so I couldn't toggle. Neither showed up in the device manager either. I rolled back to an image from a month ago and still nothing. I was ready to look for a new laptop because I don't want to carry around a mouse with me.
After a little more research I found a post stating that someone reset the bios to factory for something similar. I did that and it worked! Even though there are no mouse setting in the bios, it must have something to do with the hotkeys. I guess I managed to turn both off somehow and since I don't have a mouse hotkey anymore, I couldn't change it back.
I hope this helps someone in the future. At least I got to do the thermal paste upgrade, not as exciting as the 3770k deliding but overall I'm pleased.

Interesting about the thermal paste - I would do what you did merely for that, but it runs so awfully slow compared to my other laptops (even with 8gb and an ssd) that I think I'll eventually replace it with a newer laptop (I use it as my bedside laptop so it doesn't need to be super speedy).

Just disappointed at how sluggish it seems - both cores seem topped out even for seemingly simple tasks.

Still running Windows 7 on it, by the way.

    - Tim

I went in to BIOS to change some settings before inserting a new SSD (Disabled UEFI). Now my system does a boot loop.

From the Thinkpad screen, all I get is

Configuration changed - restart the system

I can't enter BIOS by pressing F1, or get a boot device list. I Cant boot from USB key or USB opticasl drive.

    Any ideas.

Just stopping by for updates and saw tbessie's note.
tbess: what did you replace the x120e with for your main usage?

I've had this x120e now for way longer than I thought I would because I cannot find anything to beat it comprehensively. Are there faster spreadsheet burners in a form factor this trim and functional? probably. [name me one and we'll see...]. Are there better gamers in this form factor? Actually, I'm not sure - there are some 11.6 and 12'ish gamers but they overheat, don't last, are unreliable, etc etc so somebody clue me in. Nobody bought a x120e to game on primarily but I DID buy it to run HDMI-out to big monster HDTV's etc for youtube content and other HD 1080p streams and it manages it handily.
Are there better displays out there? Yes, in slightly larger packaging but having recently added two other laptops to my collection [both very potent], I 'see' that this display is pretty good for the humble price. way more useful than the others at hand.

I have the money to spend - that's not an issue, but for everyday grab & go use I'm not seeing anything that can wrench this out of my hands. I spent many years in high tech and was always being issued some laptop or other to use both in office and on the road - My how I wish I had had this one instead. I do some consulting, repair, purchasing, networks, etc work now and this thing goes from being "lab mule" to road warrior to [as said] HTPC, and back again without complaining about anything. I've had no real issues with it that I did not cause myself. I haven't done the Thermal upgrade but mine doesn't get very hot.

I recently spent around $500 on a pair of AMD-based 15's: an HP envy M6 with A10-4600m and a Gateway [nee Acer] 15 with the A8-4500M. They both needed minor work [thus the pricing] but easy for me to get them into high gear. Now both of those are FAST machines, properly configured, and can game up to mid-level with the best f them, especially the well-documented A10. But everyday use? no way. those things are monsters, unwieldy - how much table space do I need to open a book, a paper notebook, an ipad, lay my Galaxy Note down, and still have room for a laptop to grab? the x120e is useful. the others are 'special purpose' thingies

I looked at the newer Asus Touch-screen notebook with the "new" A6 processor but it falls short - the size is good but the performance is about the same as this unit. what is it that would get me to switch? I don't see anything.

As a tech, I like how everything about the x functions - the USB ports [yes I wish I had full blast 3.0], HDMI handling, screen switching, audio fidelity, you name it. Like the ruggedness. Mine shows no more wear than some keyboard aging [i type hard and fast] and a few mars on the cover. Like the way its put together: easy to work on, upgrade, etc. It does not trap dirt and hairballs as easily as some laptops. Battery life is nothing like an ipad mini [what is?] but is ok for most of an average day and I have not even looked into the higher capacity batts that are available.

somebody tell me what to buy to get this thing out of my hands!

as p.s. I'm running windows 8.1 and 8.0 on other laptops etc, 7 on the x120e. I don't see any particular advantage to either ver of 8 - It is a tad quicker on some well-behaved systems, slower on others [particularly on full/real shutdown]. There's not an OS reason to switch to something else.

meanwhile the desktop and laptop markets are sinking ever lower and have you noticed how much the traffic here on notebookreview has dropped? there's a reason.

Well, unfortunately I accidentally stepped on my x120e (while it was laying closed, next to my bed). I didn't step on it super hard, but it seems to have messed it up (possibly cracked the LCD internally or broken some internal connections - the screen flickers and has all kinds of interesting patterns on it so that it's pretty unreadable (though the computer itself seems to be working).

Rather than send this in to Lenovo to fix, I decided to get a new small laptop. Since I REALLY far prefer the trackpoint to a trackpad (I have tried for a long time to get used to a trackpad - I just hate 'em), I ordered another in the same series from Lenovo, this time an x131e. It has a Core i3 processor, I believe Ivy Bridge (HD 4000 graphics, which only comes with Ivy Bridge anyway I think). 4 effective cores (2 cores with hyperthreading), so I think this will be a bit of a faster machine. It also has USB-3, which is nice.

I ordered it several days ago, and once Lenovo's site stops being broken and tells me what my order status is, I may know when I'm getting it (their support people don't know why the site isn't working, but it's been broken since last week). They said it SHOULD be shipped July 21st, but I think their support, such as it is, is slipping to be even worse than it ever was before. You'd think a major computer manufacturer could get their ordering website working - don't they want to sell computers??

You're lucky in that your x120e is running as speedily as it is - perhaps I'm spoiled or just want something even faster.

I needed some raw power in a small form factor for a trip last year, and bought a Sony Vaio Z1311, which was discontinued last winter and is now completely unavailable new, from what I can see. It's pretty fast - i7 mobile processor (full voltage), quad core with hyperthreading (so 8 effective cores), dual SSDs at RAID-0, 8gb, 14", and VERY light and slim. There's really nothing like it on the market now (lots of folks, including me, complaining on the Sony Vaio forums about how everything's an "Ultrabook" these days, with ULV processors). It's useful for a software developer like myself; for everyday use (Microsoft Office, web browsing, multimedia, etc.) it's overkill, I guess. It also had cost me $2000 or so I think.

I dunno - some of the newer Vaios are alright, and there's the x131e that I'm getting - few people seem to have bought them though, I don't know why.

I just have no trust in the sony units. everytime I see specs I think would be good, I go start reading user reviews and get dissuaded. not reliable.
I should poke around here [nbr] for users of Amazon.com: Acer Aspire V5-171-6471 11.6-Inch Laptop (Silky Silver): Computers & Accessories
To me, if you're going to substantially beat the x120e, it will take something like that, which has GOOD user feedback.
my experience with Intel HD is lousy [or, its lousy] especially in how it mishandles HDMI . you would think with the bathtubs of money Intel have, they could just buy amd and move on...

I do tech work for small biz etc and have had to fix these intel hdmi/hdcp issues - at least the ones that are fixable.
but, for users that just need snappy Exchange/Outlook performance with bloated databases & such, and care not about HD/graphics, there are better choices than the lowly APU route.

The reviews you may've read were likely for the Sony popular consumer models. The Z line have been, for the last 3 years or so, some of the most powerful and most reliable of laptops, and well-designed. But, again, they've discontinued the line, unfortunately, so you couldn't get one anyway. :-/

HDMI worked fairly well on the Vaio Z1311 (which uses Intel HD 4000 as well); not bad. Not top-level gaming quality, but not bad either. That said, my HTPC (and my other full-sized computers) have AMD video cards in them; the HTPC has a fanless card in it to keep noise down, so it's also not the top level card.

What problems, specifically, have you had? Some device in the HDCP chain refusing to play video from an intel HDMI port?

my best guess was that there are syncing issues with HDCP. I think by this point on the later chipsets and graphics units from intel, IF the device oem does not sabotage by trying to block installation of non-oem-vetted 'wares, such are fixable. the well-executed amd ref builds seem a lot more accommodating to various monitors/hdtv's etc - sync usually just hooks up without drama.

Hmm - I haven't used the Intel chipset graphics much, except on this Vaio I mentioned; wasn't as full-featured as the AMD graphics, but worked decently.

With the Haswell HD5000 chipset graphics, I hear that it can handle some pretty heavy-duty uses; I may rely on that for my next HTPC build.

edit: hmmmmm.... seems in this case your instincts would be spot-on:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215619

    not pretty!

i liked the AO722 's . reco'd them to several folks and nobody complained.
well done unit but i certainly like the x120e a lot better.
i have the gateway/acer A8-trinity unit [sold actually... just haven't done the transfers yet]. heavy, bulky, terrible display, but otherwise well done except for a threadbare bios

i've learned the hard way that brand does not mean a lot. each model or family stands on its own merits. desktops were more predictable but time moves on...
i like my galaxy note 1.... bought galaxy s3 for my bride. lousy wifi... sigh...

I got this lappy a couple of days ago used with a known overheating problem. I decided to try to disassemble it, but im at the point where The motherboard moves but the headphone socket is stuck and does not want to bulge.

I have followed, infact that was what I was following when I was taking the laptop apart following. I also watched the video, but the person really skipped the motherboard removal part, you see him take it out, but that was when he was pretty much done. I have also looked at the dis-assembly documents on lenovo's site and it just tells you to lift the motherboard up. Maybe im just not reading and following the correct instructions..

However it would seem that the headphone jack just doesn't want to get loose.

I have added some pictures if it will help

    DSC01849.JPG
Main board just incase something is different

    DSC01846.JPG

    DSC01850.JPG
This one shows that there is a plastic latch over the usb port, blocking it from being freed, the bottom arrow shows that the usb port is blocked from moving up

    DSC01847.JPG

    DSC01851.JPG

    DSC01852.JPG

And here is a couple of pictures of the headphone jack, as you can see in the last picture, everything is lose except for the port.

Any help would be appreciated or if more pictures are required, then I would happy to provide them.

    Update:

I have been successful in removing the motherboard, I had to saw off the piece of plastic that was above the yellow USB.

I have applied new thermal paste (Ceramique 2).

Do not know if I did it correctly as temperatures are still very high, but I understand that there is a curing period or process... so I shall wait a day or two

New X120E owner here. Anyone know where i can find a whitelisted bios? And what driver are you guys running? I'm currently running 13.8 beta, and youtube runs like aboe e. It should run 1080p but even 480p is a bit choppy. I'm running an SSD and 8GB ram btw.

Also, as a sidenote. I can confirm that the X120E does not work with 16gb ram. I tested it with the ram from my other Lenovo. (beep, pause, beep, beep, beep)

guys did you ever get your broadcom crystal hd to work with your x120e?

my x120e with e-240 plays back video in MPC-HC fine but for flash videos it really suffers.

I don't understand the broadcom question a few posts back. what's theissue?

I have no issues with the latest flash - nothing unusual noted, but let me be clear that I use Nightly, IE10, and occasionally Chrome. all that makes a diff.
Chrome in particular will give you trouble on Flashplayer if you do not manually disable one of the flash/shockwave plugins/players/
To my knowledge the chrome team does not see it as a bug, i guess, being stubbornly proud of their own inclusion and thinking the user is stupid for installing any other browser. the redundant/overlapping apps will be both enabled and the performance will be buggy.

There were a number of posts about heat. one thing that really baffles me: temps are around 10c lower when I am 'docked' running the HDMI out to a 1080p mon that I love.. I can reason a way that such would lower the temps a LITTLE, but that's a lot. When running on battery, using the onboard display, its at its hottest ...that is, under similar stressing.
but I must have gotten lucky, mine never goes above about 84c, and there are no issues at that temp. the exhaust is toasty but the underside is comfy. the fan is reasonably quiet. i have no complaints.

    excellent. glad you sorted.

I had a chance here in the last few weeks to use two notebooks that have way more power than the x120e: respectively an A8-powered late model Gateway/acer 15.6" with windows 8, and for a bit longer a HP Envy M6 with A10-4600m, radeon 7660g - this one gets a lot of youtubes posted for its amazing gaming-per-dollar ability, especially when max'd out with 16gb and strong ssd.
I sold it today for a mere $340 but made money at that... the guy that bought it was overjoyed.

anyway, it gave me a perspective. yes those things will eat up graphic-intensive content no matter what monitor you're using from onboard to huge - high def, blu-ray, whatever.
but in everyday use, I still prefer the little guy. too many reasons to list, though the occasional burst of USB 3.0 speed is sure nice to have on the newer ones.
both of those big luggers had glossy screens and that's a dance hall I will never return to... I can put up with it on my ipad mini but not a notebook where in use its typically sitting still on a flat surface.

I'm looking ahead to the Haswell-based small units, but it will be awhile before the real user reports start rolling in. 'til then, I don't know that I am missing much.
