As the title says what are the advantages and disadvantages of these two GPU's?

I configured 2 laptops with the only difference being one has ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 128MB the other ATI Mobility Fire GL V5250 256MB.

With the latter being only $40 more is there a reason not to go this way?

I remember reading somewhere that if you don't need the Fire GL for its specific capabilities it is better going with the other. Something like battery life and some other issues. I have been searching for an hour but cannot find where I read this before or much info on comparing these two.

I could be just talking out my ass to, not sure.

Look forward to what you all have to say.

    Joe

The firegl card is based off the x1700 and as such will be more powerful than the x1400. The v5250 is a workstation card, meaning it's designed to run CAD and other computer design work. That's not to say that it can't game--but some games won't work with a workstation card and driver support is not as good.

    How did I miss that!

Thanks for the point. I did do a search using GPU and ATI x1400 and Fire GL ect... But this one never came up.

I will now ask my questions on the other post. Thanks again.
