So I've had my X200 for about a month. Absolutely -love- it. Small, thin, performs really well, quite, big keyboard, hooks up to the docking station nicely.
The only problem I've encountered is that randomly, without warning or notice, my wireless will stop working.
- I can't right-click the wireless network next to the clock.
- If I go Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Repair WiFi, it kicks-out "Can't disable adapter" error
- If I turn the adapter on/off using the switch on the side, it doesn't help
The only thing that saves it is a full reboot.
I've got the Intel 5300 chip running XP with driver 12.0.0.75 (Driver day 1/5/08)... I just tried a ThinkVantage driver upgrade, but no drivers came for the WiFi.
Can anyone else replicate this? Any recommendations?

I've got the same issue with my T61, I would also like a fix for this.

I have never had a disconnection with my 5100 , maybe the 5300 is not that good after all.

I was having the same problem. Disabling Lenovo Readyconnect did the trick.

Lenovo drivers are defective. Install the OEM Intel ones from Intel's site, and it works fine. I had the same problem, and it was driving me batty.
All good now. -
I assume the 5100 series uses the same drivers...so did lenovo somehow only screw up 5300 drivers that shipped out? I haven't seen any 5100 users having issues.
-
I'm using the drivers most up to date with Lenovo's System Update. Never dropped once....
could it be just the XP drivers? -
How to disable "disable Lenovo Readyconnect" and download 5300 driver from Intel, please. A step by step instruction will be much appreciated. In fact, I was able to locate the driver (12.1.2.1) from the Intel download site, but don't know know where to install.
Thank you in advance! -
I'm running Vista Business 32-bit on my X200 and i can confirm my 5300 drops out quite frequently too.
I have the latest drivers from Lenovo and I would also like to know how ReadyConnect (btw what does ReadyConnect do? and would it affect performane in anyway if it is disabled?) can ne disabled and where I can obtain the latest drivers from Intel.
Many thanks -
Hmm...I don't know what Ready Connect is, but to get the drivers from Intel site, start here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=3062&lang=eng
and select your OS.
I chose Vista Business and clicked on the first entry and on that page, found the link to download: English: 12.1.2.0_V_Drivers.zip
The file doesn't have a "setup" program, so I will probably either "update" my driver via device manager and point to the new files or "uninstall" then "re-install" and point to the new files. -
I have the same issue. x200, 5300, Vista 64. I updated to the Intel drivers a few days ago so we'll see what happens. Tried to do the same for video and I HAD to use Lenovo supplied drivers. ?! Guessing it's for support issues or something.

I have 5300 and the performance and reliability suck.
I regularly connect to a Netgear DG834N, which Vista reports connection speeds ~65-78mbps, and and a Thompson TG585v7 (802.11b/g) which claims 54 mbps, at 2.4G Hz
Streaming video is impossible even within 2m direct line of sight of either router. Copying large files is also painfully slow, with throughput rates starting less than 100k and gradually crawling up over a period of 20-30 minutes - sometimes not at all.
Installing the v12.1.2.1 Intel Drivers made no difference.
None of my other laptops have problems with this - even my old Fujitsu with an Atheros g adapter has no issues at all receiving or streaming media.
This is one of the reasons I'll be getting rid of my X200. -
I just installed an Edimax EW-7717Un USB wifi & boy what an improvement. Files now transfer consistently at >1.6 mb per second. Nothing else changed on the x200, so I can confirm the 5300 adapter & intel drivers suck.
