i've looked in Performance Information and Tools, and it says is caused by:

Name: Intel Graphics Kernel Mode Driver
    Filename: igdkmd32.sys
    Publisher: Intel Corporation
Device: Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family

I have the latest graphics driver installed, and there's nowhere i can find information about "kernel mode driver" or igdkmd32.sys. does anyone else have the same problem or what can be done about it?

Same problem here, but haven't found a solution yet. The problem is reproducible even without the computer resuming from sleep, as it's also happening when the screen lights up after being dimmed black to save energy. The computer just hangs there with the mouse moving but no action possible.

I've been trying to play with the settings in the Power Manager, but so far no luck. Also worth being noted, if you let the computer sit like this for a certain amount of time, eventually you get the control back (I'd say 5-15 min range but I've not measured it).

    Any thoughts anyone ?

I've been looking around a bit, and so far I've only found problems with intel graphic drivers in Vista. People recommended upgrade or downgrade of the drivers, which is not applicable in this case. Better watch for an upgrade directly from Intel.

For myself, quick workaround is to avoid the screen to go black when not in use. Not very satisfying but that at least avoids the hangs.

yeah, now whenever i want to leave the laptop unattended, i put it on hibernate. but if it goes to sleep on its own, it's hit or miss if it'll come back to life.

i'm hoping that windows 7 will play better w/ intel, than vista. that's one of the main reasons i want 7, (plus it costs almost nothing to upgrade), as i've generally been happy with vista. but the amount of stuff intel makes on your computer - processor, wireless, graphics card, turbo memory, ... you'd think they can make their drivers behave better with windows?

Not really unfortunately, Intel is famous (or should I say infamous ?) for the low quality of its drivers, and especially graphic ones. I don't know what's the priority of a problem like this one, but you can always hope for a fix, either from Lenovo or Intel.

    Sorry about that :D

Well anyway this is a visible problem, that may help them figure it out. Let's hope so.

This is on ongoing problem with many Thinkpad when going into or out of sleep in Vista.

Definitely a BIOS/drivers issue. It looks like it was solved in Windows 7 with new BIOS and drivers. Haven;t had a hang yet.

Maybe interesting for us, or not as we have no way to check wether this fixes our problems, but the last graphic driver on intel's website (V15.15.6.64.1892) is more recent than the last one from Lenovo (V15.15.6.64.1855). We just have to wait until Lenovo validates the new one, since we cannot install directly Intel's one.
Just for curiosity's sake, what BIOS version are you using ?

Thanks for the info Mikec. There was an update for my X200s' BIOS yesterday, and it looks like the problem has been solved. Still under observation at the moment, but so far so good.

Update 11/13 : The problem has reappeard, so it looks like the new BIOS was not the solution.
