I've been getting a faint but audible pulsing, intermittent whine coming from the top left of my x200. This occurs only when the AC is plugged in; the whine disappears as soon as I unplug the AC adapter.

I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing the same issue.

I am not on my x200 but I have heard about this from other laptops...perhaps it is intel speed step? A lot of laptops make noise that isn't always identifiable/fixed.

I heard the same thing when plugged in. Since I use battery mostly, I haven't checked to see if it does it again but I'll listen out for it..

You might want to put your ear right up to your AC adapter.

I have had 2 recent Lenovo AC adapters that exhibited an intermittent high-pitched whine. It took me a while to figure this out because for some reason the location of the whine was very difficult to discern. I thought it was the notebook making the noise but it turns out it was the adapter.

I phoned Lenovo warranty support about the problem in the evening and the next morning a new adapter had arrived.

I also have a whine on the left side of my X200, but it seems to only happen when it has the battery in it regardless whether the AC is plugged in or not. Maybe it's the "CPU whine" problem I've read about?

Update: I switched to Balance Power Plan and the whine was gone. I guess I can live with that.
