    Hey everybody

If I understand correctly, Lenovo has removed the EMT option from their website (at least in Canada). I would just like to share a disappointing and frustrating experience with you
I placed my order for an x200 tablet with EMT at the end of October. It finally arrived about 1 week ago and I picked it up last Friday evening. I could hardly believe when I realized that I did NOT receive the machine that I had ordered!
Missing and substituted features included: Windows Vista instead of 7, no webcam, CD-RW instead of DVD-RW, and 4-cell instead of 8-cell.

I am thoroughly disappointed and frustrated with Lenovo. I was bounced around and put on hold for over 1 hour on the phone today, until finally sales realized that the specs for my order on their system did not match the specs of what I had received on the tech support system.
Even worse, there was no manager on hand to discuss the situation.

Apparently the EMT screen is on backorder and will not be available until mid January, after which I would have to wait at least 2 weeks to receive my correct machine.

I have definitely lost a great deal of respect for Lenovo.

I understand that you're upset and there's no excuse for that degree of a parts mishap. However, if you have the EMT screen and desired CPU in the model you have been sent, it's probably easier to ask for them to fix the bad parts than send a new machine.

I'm not sure about the webcam, but the battery and DVD±RW are a ten second swap. You could also probably ask for Win7 recovery disks or possibly an HDD with Win7 pre-installed. This would be far faster than waiting until mid January for the EMT panel to become in stock and a brand new x200 Tablet to be produced. Just a word of advice.

Wow, that's a great idea! I did not think of that at all. Thanks for the advice. I will call and see what they think.
(By the way, last time I spoke to them I was quite disappointed how they seemed so apathetic about my situation, and did not proactively offer any compensation.)

As far as I know, it appears as though the screen is EMT. I can zoom in some programs using two fingers, but I have not noticed any other functions. Are you aware of a way to confirm that the screen is EMT? Device manager simply says "ThinkPad Display 1280x800".

By the way, is there any way to view the specs of my original order? I had saved it as a pdf on my old laptop, but coincidentally that hard drive failed two days before I received this incorrectly spec'ed x200!

If it accepts two fingers, then it is EMT. Simple enough.

Looks like one "good" thing came out of this whole fiasco.
I was thinking of asking for a hard drive upgrade as compensation for my inconvenience, but I just realized that my hard drive appears to be an SSD (whereas I had ordered a regular old HDD). Device manager lists it as "toshiba thns128gg4baaa-n"
So perhaps it is indeed in my best interest to request for them to swap in my correct parts as JonLumpkin suggests. Then again, they might swap in the correct hard drive too!
    What do you think?

p.s. I am not up to speed with SSD's. I came across a thread/post here that suggests that this Toshiba SSD is the poorest SSD. But I suppose it is still better (faster) than any of the HDDs that Lenovo offers?

there are many instances where laptop from Lenovo have their parts upgraded for the sake of faster delivery time. To check the exact part list of your machine, you can look at your unique part list for your laptop.

I suggest you post the SSD question in a separate thread in the Hardware component forum.

Thanks!! That's exactly what I needed
Fortunately, I also managed to recover my data from my old hard drive (using EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard - I highly recommend it!), so I have the full spec's of my original order now.

    Okay thanks for the suggestion.

When you send it to them for "repair" pull the SSD and tell them you already put some sensitive data on it, this way you keep your ssd. That means you will have to install W7 yourself...but probably worth it. They should be able to do all the other repairs without the SSD.

Sounds like someone out there may have gotten a computer destined for you, just seems like too many things were "wrong" on your unit.

Apparently they are not able to "repair" the unit as requested.
I must say that I have had a thoroughly disappointing and frustrating experience with Lenovo thus far. This was a considerable screw-up on their part and they seem quite unapologetic.
After extensive prodding they offered $50 concession on my new order, and $44 for an extra AC adapter that I had ordered already.
Apparently I have to file a formal complaint for anything more, and I have put in a "request" to do so. (I was told to e-mail my sales representative, who happens to be away on holiday...)

I would cancel my order and demand a refund in an instant, but I must say I love the x200!

lenovo offered to pay you $94 and return the system on their dime and you're disappointed?   most vendors would have swapped you out 1:1 and called that good enough.   unless i'm mistaken, you're getting paid close to $100 for your frustrating experience.

being frustrated is understandable but i'm not sure what's left to be disappointed about, especially since you like the X200. ;)

I realize that things could be far worse, and perhaps my expectations were too high.

However, it is quite an inconvenience for me. Not just the delay but also having to transfer my data multiple times, repackage and send the machine, the possibility of returning a hard drive with personal data on it, having to pay twice and then wait for a refund on the initial machine after returning it...

Also, I had down time during the holidays to set up the machine. Now I must deal with all these stresses in the midst of a hectic med school schedule.

In addition, their customer service was quite disappointing as well. It took far too long to convince the staff that my machine was incorrectly delivered, and it was frustratingly difficult to get a hold of a manager who ended up being unapologetic and failed to return calls.

On a different note, one thing that is disappointing me about the x200 itself is battery life. The 4 cell only provides a little over 2 hours, and I suppose the 8 cell that I originally ordered would provide something over 4 hours, which is decent but not as great as I had expected.

i get about 6 hours out of the 8 cell on my X200T.   make sure you have your power plan set correctly.

I get 6-8 hours depending on usage with mine. At idle the x200T should use <7 watts if brightness is reduced. With max brightness and wi-fi on, you should be closer to 10 or 11 watts (still a solid six hours with the 8-cell).

That's promising! I will test it out when (or if) my correct machine arrives

Interestingly enough, yesterday and today my indicator has been quoting 3-4 hours! (still for the 4 cell) Very encouraging :)
