Well, the WXGA+ LED on the t400 has pushed my ship date back to 4/23 from 3/20 and an order date of 2/18. i had ordered the t400 for its highres LED screen and the SSD. i am to the point know where i am tired of waiting. and contemplating a x200s as a seems be the next best, which would mean the sacrifice of the SSD, 1gb ram(2 instead of 3), the firewire port, and dedicated graphics. the ssd drive is the most disappointing but adding one on my own may be cheaper. any thoughts from anyone else?

I'm currently waiting for an X200s (with 1440x900 res). I need firewire, and although the X200s doesn't have it, I have ("adopted") an Expresscard with TI-chipset I will be using. I have tested the card on my MBP where - under OS X - it doesn't work as it should be. I get audio drop outs and whatnot. However, when I boot into a windows session it works perfectly. My point is, that although I really don't like adaptors – especially when it comes to anything audio related – I'm confident it will work with the X200s. To me, I don't consider the X200s "Next best". I consider it "somewhat different" to the T400.

At some later stage I will buy an SSD as well, but I'm not in such a hurry. In fact, I wil buy a nice big SSD for my audio recorder (it's a Sound Devices 722) before I buy one for the X200s.

I don't have much use for a dedicated graphics card – or at least very little use, so to me it doesn't matter much. Battery life, weight, size, build quality et al matters more. In fact, I will be "downgrading" from a C2D 2.33GHz (this MBP I'm typing on) to the 1.86GHz C2D in the X200s. At first it worried me a little, but it doesn't anymore. I just want things to work and work properly.

With all that said, and all that being my personal opinion, needs and wants, I doubt you'll feel the same, or even have the same needs. I think that people would be able to give you better advice if you told them what your needs are and how you'll be using the thing. Well, and they can give you better advice than I can. Period.

I will mainly be using it for web browsing, some light photo editing, hd video editing (just splitting and combining clips). i had a t60 which was stolen an this will be its replacement so even though it is LV it should still perform just as well as the t60. it will most likely not leave my house much, but i still would like it to be small, the t60 was a 14" 4:3 screen which i loved. i just want my laptop back and don't feel like waiting for the t400 led wxga+ if i can get a x200s with a highres led screen faster.

I don't do much video, but I'm wondering if a 12" screen (regardless of the resolution) won't be somewhat small except when doing some quick field-editing? Of course, if it does become too small, I guess you could go for an external.
I truly get the "I can't wait anymore"-sentiment. I'm so sick and tired of this thing I'm typing on :-(

Do you have to have the LED screen on the T400? I know the regular CFL screen with WXGA+ is shipping in a timely manner. The difference between 12" and 14" is quite big in terms of productivity if this is going to be your main machine, performance wise I think the X200 would be fine but screen real estate is a big deal for productivity as well.

i am currently waiting on the LED screen on the t400 i accepted the 1 month wait when i order back in February but another month is just to long. i was figuring that since it still would have the same resolution on the 12" screen that it would work out okay, i don't mind small text and menus. plus i can order it from a an online reseller and have it ship same day. maybe i should go see some 12" screens in person to make sure it will be okay
