    Hello !

My first message is about the possibility to upgrade the x201's default screen to an x220 ips ? do you know if they are compatible ?
If not, is there some easy and inexpensive alternative to get an ips for a x201 (non tablet) ?

    Thank you !

No, the screens aren't even the same size. You might be able to get an AFFS screen for the X201 which is a premium lcd

It is possible to upgrade it to a Hydis AFFS LCD. AFFS is similar to IPS. The Hydis LCD part number is HV121WX4. They're widely available on eBay. There's three versions of the screen. The 100 and 110 are glossy, and 120 is matte. The 120 is somewhat hard to find and more expensive if you do.

The Hydis LCD is from a tablet. A lot of the screens have the touch surface and digitizer still attached, which will need to be removed before it will fit in the X201. It's a pain in the rear job. There are some with them already removed like this. It's a bit more expensive, but worth it in my opinion.

Since your X201 probably has a LED LCD, you'll need to replace the cable and LED sub card with a cable and and inverter from a CFFL X200. All the part numbers are in the Hardware Maintenance Manual.

You can also replace it with an S-PVA panel. Better contrast/blacks than the AFFS panel (IMHO), although there's the traditional PVA purple shift at extreme viewing angles (i.e. when viewed practically side-on.)
