    Hi,

Is there any disadvantage to using the x201 Tablet as a regular notebook (not in tablet mode)?

I'm trying to decide between the standard x201 and the x201T. This will be my main business notebook and I will use it as a standard laptop (not as a tablet) probably 80+% of the time. Occasionally I would like to use the tablet mode for note taking, but that would be much less frequently than using it as a normal laptop. Can the tablet be used as an equally reliable work laptop, just like the regular x201, when the tablet feature isn't being used?

Is there any issue with the screen wobbling (since it's a rotating hinge), or not staying upright when it's opened as a normal notebook? Does this hinge wear out over time?

I'm willing to spend the extra $ for the tablet mode, and I am aware that it is slightly more bulky/heavy. But I don't want to buy it if I am sacrificing any "normal" laptop functionality just for the added tablet mode, since the tablet mode will be a minor part of it's usage.

Thank you so much for any input!
    C

If you don't need the tablet then don't get the tablet version as more $$ for the tablet, and why pay extra money for something you don't use?

    Thanks for your reply.

I would like to use the tablet feature for occasional note taking (though probably only about 20% of it's usage will be for that). I am willing to spend the extra money if it gives me an equally good "regular" notebook as the x201, but with the added tablet functionality when I want to use it. However, if it's an inferior "regular" notebook than the x201, then you're right--I might as well just buy the standard x201.

Was hoping to get some input from some x201T users as to the quality.

    Thanks!

    See:
Yes, the X201t works just as well in laptop-form (in fact, you'll find a number of tablet users on NBR who bought the tablet version primarily for the much-higher-quality screen. I'd say the only real differences between the X201t and the normal X201, other than the tablet functionality, are A) the X201t uses low-voltage processors that are slower than the X201's standard-voltage processors (with general usage, you won't be able to tell the difference), and B) the X201t has 8- and 4-cell battery options, whereas the X201 has 9-, 6-, and 4-cell batteries.

The hinge of the X201t is more prone to damage than the simple hinges of the non-tablet X201 laptops, but I haven't heard of many issues with it - the hinge is quite robust.

Well the tablets will have a much better screen. Not as much color shift or whiting out at angles. The x201 notebook like most all notebooks has a terrible screen that's why people replace them. I love my x201 but hate screen like looking through a screen door unless you're looking directly at it perfectly perpendicular and will switch out to AFFS+ screen once I have all the parts.

The disadvantage to tablets is no thinklight to see keyboard if you use it in the dark but this is remedied by having a touch /digitized screen. Little more money but not much more.

So it sounds like the tablets are just as sturdy as a regular notebook as the x201. Thank you very much for the input.
