I just wondered, with the x201 i7 620m running so cool- even on full load ive left my laptop running for over a day and it still isnt hot, is there room to overclock up to 2.8 or 2.9GHz?

(Also if there is, how would this be done?)

I'm curious, do you think the increased speed is going to make enough of a difference to make it worth the effort?

it would overclock automatically using the turbo mode.

Well i do quite a lot of number crunching programming so for me it would.

For instance i had to leave the laptop running for 26 hours to perform some calculations the other night.

there is no point of overclocking the i7 CPU in a X201, you would only cause slow down as the size of the heatsink/fan in the ultraportable is not designed to for these sort of torture. You may also prematurely kill the laptop's motherboard or other components, as a result.

if speed is what you're after then you should consider buying a dual-processor workstation.   overclocking an ultraportable notebook isn't a reasonable solution for your needs.
