    Hi All,

I want to ask about the maximum CPU temperature people see on their x201 using core i5 CPUs (I have the i5-540M).

I did a few searches for threads regarding "max temp" "temperature" and those terms in the x201 owner's thread, but haven't seen anyone state their own maximum temps.

On my x201, I get a max of about 83 degrees using core temp in an environment of about 20 degrees (my house is set to 19 and it's winter and prob. around that much on an airplane where I played Starcraft 2 for 5 hours).

I'm just worried because that number seems high.

On my girlfriend's T400, it was hitting ridiculously high temps and would lock/shutdown. She would see numbers in the 90's. I took it apart and clean off the fan/chips, applied Arctic Silver 5, then re-assembled. Her idles are now in the 30s whereas they were in the 40's/50's before and after 2 minutes of orthos, it was around 60. May hit 70 if orthos were to run for 30-60 minutes?

Anyways, the x201 seems much more of a b*tch to disassemble, so not sure if it's worth the effort if my system is in no risk of life degradation.

    Comments?

    Thanks

My x201 (i7) hits 80 or so only when I play ET (online fps game) and ONLY when docked.
When undocked it never goes above 70 or so under stress.
So perhaps there isn't enough ventilation in your case.
Either way, I wouldn't worry too much about 80 under stress. What does it idle at? Mine does so at 50 max.

It's idling between 44-50 at the moment. I have IE, firefox, onenote, msn running.

I've used a few thinkpads in the past and they've always felt hot to me.

My gf's T400 using the T9600 cpu (should run hotting than the P series) idles in the mid 30's (after my fan thermal paste fix) while i'm idling 10-15 higher. Just doesn't seem right.. lol.

    i3 330m

    idle 50-55
    1 thread 100% 60-65

    on dockstation +10

I think T400 and t500 have more metall in radiator.

When looking at core temps, make sure you also note the ambient (room) temperature. A warmer room will obviously result in a laptop running warmer as well. In a ~68 F room, my T500's P8700 processor idles at around 27-32 C with the integrated graphics enabled, and tops out at around 65-70 C when under heavy load with the discrete GPU enabled.

    Looks normal for a x201

I stressed the I5-540 and had average temps in the mid 80's

40@idle with a max approaching 100 for a few seconds ,the fan went to high and the temp went down to the mid 80's
