Had a spontaneous power off for the first time a couple days ago on my x201. I did some google searching and found it's been a common issue, but no one really had any solution. I'm thinking what caused it for me is too much current being pulled off the USB. I was originally running all my USB devices through a powered hub and I never had any issues. But the other day, when I ran all the devices straight through the laptop, that was when I had the random power off.

Anyways, if anyone has the same problem, the USB draw is my best guess as to what causes it.

External hard drives and optical drives will use too much power. In the 2 months I had my X201, never experienced that issue.

ThinkPad FanControl in combination with the new Power Manager can cause some weird problems. My X220 would go into hibernation at 50% Battery Life. I can only fix this by ending TPFC.

To fix your X201, try installing the latest BIOS version.
