Hi guys,
I got a monitor with displayport - when I keep it in dual mode with VGA and DP, the DP was flickering sometimes, and also the computer freezes for like 1 minute - then work again.
What do you guys think is the problem? I used the DP monitor ONLY and it still flickered, even in BIOS. I am not sure if it's the cable or monitor or computer or the ultrabase.
please help me~~
Thanks

what is the brand and model of the monitor? do you have a DP to DVI converter?
have you tested the external monitor with some other machine using DP connection? -
I am using Dell 1909W on VGA (or Dell S2309W before), and Dell U2211 monitor - I use the DP to DP cable. I am going to ask a friend with DP monitor to try the cable. i just flipped around the docking station and for some reason, the compt has not frozen for a while - but if it were a cable, does it cause freezing and flickering? i dont get these technical/mechanical thing
thanks a lot -
Now it gives me bluescreen. what do you guys suggest? sometimes i unplugged and plugged in again, screen doesnt flicker and no freeze, but then after i turned it off, restarted, it flickers again even though i didnt touch the cable
-
The x201 is bluescreening all by itself? Are you running the factory image that came with the machine?
-
yep. I havnet reinstalled or anything. I think this is because of the new monitor - so either the cable is bad or my docking station is bad or monitor is bad and i can't eliminate the probabilities! (now my compt is working totally fine too, I just juggle the cable)

one question: do you guys know if I can use VGA port on laptop when i also use VGA port on ultrabase?
pls help
thanks a lot -
The VGA port on the laptop is switched off when you use the VGA on the dock.

On the older LCD, the displayport to DVI has no problem, but if connected to the newer LCD, it flickers and shutoff once in a while. When I change the resolution from 1920x1200 to lowest like 800x600, the symptons disappears.
So I put it down as either the graphics driver issue (because the same cable used on older LCD has no problem at 1920x1200). There was a period when a new driver came up and it caused green images/distortion and it can be solve by rolling back to older driver.
You may want to try downloading the intel display driver (even if it specifically says on intel site to use lenovo ones), then uninstall lenovo driver and install the intel driver. It may solve the problem. If it fails, you can still startup on the lowest 800x600 mode, uninstall intel drivers and reinstall lenovo drivers.
For my case, I solve it by using a displayport to HDMI to the new LCD. -
I see. I just used DP to DVI adapter today and so far so good. Just hate the fact that I had to buy cable after cable.
thanks a lot for your suggestion -
you are right! my compt still freezes 1 min once in a while (actually twice in 10 mins after it starts up)
i have no clue what to do. i hate the fact that i got an expensive monitor for DP and i can only use VGA -
I got a BSOD after switching from DP-DVI adapter to VGA cable to connect to my monitor. Just wonder if someone who can read the minidump helps me reading this file? I'd be grateful.
Thank you

I've noticed the flicker (no BSOD) with DP connections as well - which happens after I dock and wake the system up.
If I dock and restart with the machine docked, I have not had the problem. -
I don't know if BSOD comes from DP but Vogelbung, I don't have flicker anymore but freeze - and it's random. sometimes it has the freeze then I restart, undock, dock again and start up again, no freeze. I don't understand this thing...
-
Hmmm. Never had a freeze. Have odd Access Connections behaviour from time as well in the dock, but that's something else.

I had flickering using a DP-DVI converter on my LG LCD. Thought it was the LCD, so returned it after 2 years and got a new one. Had same problem, but at least I got a free LCD-upgrade from it
Did not have the same problem with the VGA-cable, and I've just ordered a DP to HDMI cable, so we'll see how that works out.
