Hey, just read somewhere that the x210 is expected in January 2010, wahooooo!!!

But does anyone know what the highest spec processor will be for this? I know there's already a P8800 x200 out

Lenovo is usually very tight lipped about these specc, but if you look at what the competitors (i.e. HP and Dell) are offering in the same category, then you should have a good idea what the X210 will have in terms of spec.

Sorry im not really that familiar with HP and Dell, do you think they will exceed the P8800 clock speed or most likely, an i7 ~2.5GHz?

Ive got an X61 at the moment, not sure whether to get x200 P8800 or wait until january

X200 will be way less expensive than the X210 for sure after the discounts.

If price is not much a factor then go with the x210 b/c of the likelihood of a faster CPU.

Thanks, im gonna be doing a lot of university programming on it, especially real time stuff (looking at port traffic) so multi core is very important hence x210 would probably be better.

Do you reckon more than 4GB would be available?

I'd get the cheapest RAM option and ugprade it yourself afterwards to cut down the cost. Buying 2x4gb of DDR3 is still pretty expensive though.

Well, the X210 will also have a dual core processor, so don't expect a quad core, if that's what you mean by "multi core."

Likewise, you can get more than 4GB RAM for the X200, I believe, but it will be very expensive, as >2GB DIMMs are rare.

expect the CPU to have a TDP of around 25 w, anything more is not desirable, as in the case of the X61 with the T7xxx CPU.

Ah i didnt realise this, i thought it was a motherboard limit to 4GB and not the actual RAM module availablity??

Yeh, when i was looking at x200 i was looking for 1GB and 160GB HD so i could just buy an SSD and upgrade the RAM, essentially i was just looking for the cheapest P8800.

I just checked the Tabook, apparently the X200 is limited to 4GB of memory, unlike the T-series, which can have up to 8GB. My bad.

IIRC some people here (or was it at the thinkpads.com forum?) installed 8GB RAM on their X200, and they work just fine.

Yeah, that's what thinkwiki states for the x200, but being unofficial, YMMV.

oooooo interesting! if you can do it for the x200 unofficially hopefully one can do it for the x210 slightly more officially
