    Well,
it has been almost a year. X220 gets really light use. I started getting FAN ERROR during boot. I blew it out with canned air and it went away for a week but now it is back. It still goes away if I try a couple times. The fan seems to be working fine, as I am monitoring it with tpfancontrol.

So I am wondering if I should try sending it in for repair. Will I get the same machine back, are they pretty good about getting things fixed quickly the first time?

If the warranty is about up, it might not be a bad idea to call and see what they say.

How is their support? I just worry because other than this one issue the machine is PERFECT. I don't want to ruin it by sending it to them!
Remember that old commercial for American Tourister where the guy hands his luggage over and the luggage handlers turn out to be Wild Apes? That is what I am envisioning!

Well, I was told I had to ship my x220 in to get the fan replaced.
I was also told that ALL they would do is replace the fan.
I am hoping that this will be quick and painless.

Funny thing is, I was entering the UPS store and I saw some Indian dude with a box just like mine and I asked him if it was a laptop and he said yeah, a Lenovo. Dead screen. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy.

    UPDATE!
I mailed my x220 in on monday after 5:30PM.
Got it back Wednesday at 8:30AM WOW! That was fast!
Paperwork indicates that they replaced the motherboard. Machine seems otherwise fine runs great and no more fan noise. (I had a slight high pitches fan noise) Seems gone now.
So I am pretty happy. I may consider getting an extended warranty.

I've had nothing but great experiences with Lenovo support. Depot service has always been 1-3 days turnaround.

Now for some issues, they return the laptop unfixed saying they couldn't reproduce the problem. But the second time I send it in, it comes back fixed. /shrug
