Hi,
is it possible to connect two high res 2560x1600 Monitors to a x220?
I thought about using the on-board display port and one display port of a docking station. I do not require the integrated display do work.
Does this work? Are there any other alternatives? (eGPU maybe?)

The Intel GPU will support two monitors at that resolution. One way to connect them would be to use a DisplayPort to 2 x DVI adaptor.

As far as I understand the "dual link DVI" of a displayport to DVI caple only drives one monitor!?

I have a 16:10 monitor for internet browsing and a bigger16:9 one for watching tv/ films. I did try using both at the same time, connected via DVI and VGA, but gave up because it was a bit of a nightmare changing between screens (either using the keyboard shortcut or right-clicking on the desktop + Screen Resolution). The order of screens kept getting mixed up in combination with the integral one.
I now just use one screen at a time via DVI and physically change them over once or twice daily. A pain but less of a pain than having the two connected together, ime. -
The full dock for the 20 series offers two DP ports and works with the X220.

I've been searching Intel datasheet 324692.pdf for clues about the monitor resolution but can't find any. Instead, it says the graphics system can support two channels each carrying 2.7Gb/s.
