I am considering buying a convertible tablet PC for taking notes in class. I wanted to know if anyone has used the x220 tablet and would recommend it for that purpose. Does it help you take notes and keep organized or is it more of a hassle then it's worth?

Tablet PCs have been fully capable of taking good notes since 2006 or so. I was using an X60T before getting my X220T and aside from the processor being at 30-50% while inking (Low Voltage Core Duo :\ ) the note taking was perfect with an SSD, Windows 7 and OneNote. An X200T and up is more than capable of taking notes.
As for organization, I've said it before on these forums that my tablet pc changed my graduate studies for the better. Everything is on my PC and incredibly organized. Here is an example.

I'm incredible impressed at how accurate and crisp your notes look in that picture. That's exactly what I wanted to know. One more question I failed to ask... how responsive is it? Did it take you some time to adjust to it or does it feel natural right away?

It feels like you are righting on glass at first, so very smooth, and I was afraid of damaging the screen by resting my palm on it while writing. That apprehension went away pretty quick, and the writing felt perfect in no time. The adjustment part is not in the actual handwriting --that is near flawless; the hard part is being able to use pen inputs for everything when in tablet mode. You are pretty much required to become a "power" tablet pc/onenote user to use it with efficiency. This, however, is also easy.

And I'd personally recommend going for the combo pen+touch and use them simultaneously. Some things are easier to do with fingers, others will require a pen. I often click using the pen in one hand and do scrolling with the other hand. After you get used to the full power of touch based devices regular laptops will feel a bit dinosaur-ish. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I didn't find there was a learning curve, I started on an X61 tablet, then I bought Commander Wolf's X200 tablet. Now I have an X220 tablet, same thing.

The only bad thing about touch + pen input using, say, OneNote, is the lack of palm rejection. I always have touch disabled when inking to avoid the random scroll or annoying resize. In portrait mode, reading, touch scrolling is brilliant.

Eh the touch scrolling doesn't always work out for me. I can't seem to get the motions right for Angry Birds, I always end up launching the bird backwards or in some off direction. >__>
