(NOT from the CTO site, where it is still not an option)
I just had my preorder for 4296-2ZU cancelled and was told this model was discontinued and no replacement is being offered by lenovo. Tried to order one with slightly lower specs and told the same thing, the 4296-2XU.
So, I'm starting to think they won't be offering outdoor/gorilla glass on tablets anytime soon if ever.
psref site still has the same old pdfs, but they are out of date now it seems

I was just getting ready to ask this question when I saw your post.
"X220 Tablet GorillaGlass question. I do a lot of document reading and need the screen best for long reading sessions. Which would be best for that, (GorillaGlass-outdoor or MultiTouch) display? This is my number one priority. Also, much less important, does anyone know if the MultiTouch display is decent outside? I realize the GorillaGlass outdoor screen is designed for that purpose but wondered if the much improved IPS display might make the MultiTouch screen OK for occasional outdoor use. Has anyone used the X220 MultiTouch outside? What do you think? Id really appreciate help steering me in the right direction."
Does anyone know if Lenovo cancelled the outdoor screen permanently?
Does anyone know of another brand laptop or tablet with an outdoor screen? -

I am also getting a little unhappy about never-ending delays with the outdoor panel. I chatted with a Lenovo rep (Vincent S) who was vague about it but suggested that the outdoor panel would appear in the "next week or so". Take 0.5 weeks for "so" to get 1.5 weeks. Then multiply it by the magic number PI to get 4.7 weeks and round it up to 5 weeks for further unforeseen delays. So, Vincent basically suggested to wait for 5 weeks which is in line with shipping dates posted by others.
According to the rumor mill, HP tablet will have a very similar screen as X220T. Possibly even identical, see here:
http://hpfansite.com/hp-elitebook/spotted-hp-elitebook-2560p-speced-priced-hp-china/
Quote: 12.5 inches LED-backlit wide viewing angle anti-glare SVA resolution screen (1366 x 768).
Sounds familiar? The only thing unclear is whether this is an outdoor screen or not. -

hm... this would suck! Although I'm still undecided between both display kinds for the tablet convertible, I am leaning towards the outdoor option for better visibility (on a train i.e.)
Outdoor option still available in all german stores that I can think of. -
The stores are still showing available (including the one I used) but try to place a non-automated order
that and its the weekend.
Unless its a fluke the delay on outdoor is likely going to suck, they cancelled 3 topseller models due to it. Supply issue? If it was just the usual backlog, they could've easily put a notice on the orders.
Only one pre/review at trustedreviews seems to have actually gotten their hands on a tablet, everyone else mentioning it is using the canned press photos instead. The good news is they had the multitouch version (you can see the circle on the screen tracking the finger) and it does still look very nice. I'd kill for a closeup side-by-side comparison though.
Unrelated but the X1 sure looks nice, and is using gorilla glass. Not sure why though if it doesn't have pen or touch? The one shop's photos does show the screen hinge capable of laying all the way to 180 degrees, not a tablet but still interesting.
x220 Tablet - outdoor screen pulled?
