i am having issues with my x220's fingerprint reader. i have tried reinstalling the drivers -- both removing/installing again and repairing.

the light on the fingerprint reader is always on shows green.

i have tried restarting multiple times to see if it'll start up again. the device doesn't show up in the biometric section in device manager anymore.

i have pretty much a stock i7, 6GB ram, 160GB plus msata mydigitalssd 64GB. i had this issue before when i didn't have the msata ssd but reinstall of the thinkvantage fingerprint software fixed it.

Did you try to open up your laptop and maybe didn't seat something right? Was it ever dropped?

i didn't open up the case or reinstall any drivers. upon starting up the system today, the system found the fingerprint reader and everything is working again.

auto-magically working is good but also doesn't allow me to troubleshoot the next time it doesn't work again.

    thinkvantage fingerprint software is 5.9.5
    touchchip fingerprint coprocessor (Port_#0003.Hub_#0003)

If it happens again, I'd call support. That's what they're there to do, provide support.

i don't mean to nitpick, but don't you have to open the case to install the msata drive?

in the context of that line, i didn't up the case to get the fingerprint reader working again. of course, i had to open it up to get the msata drive in initially but the fingerprint reader was fine after the install. it was 2 or 3 days later that it stopped working. and then, it started working again on it's own.

    loose cable? i dunno
