I have the SSD installed, but I keep getting a 2100 : Detection error on hdd0 (main hdd) failed when I plug it in.
I am on this BIOS :
Lenovo Support - BIOS Update Bootable CD for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), XP - ThinkPad
I have not touched BIOS at all ... should there be something I need to enable/disable?

Are you sure your SSD is good? Does your system detect a normal hard drive?
-
x220 does detect the drive it came with ... i also plugged this SSD into a desktop, worked fine.

Does BIOS see your SSD?
-
I don't think so. There's no way tO check if the laptop sees it afaik.
With the mechanical it's bootable/works in bios as a boot option but not the ssd.
The error code in the OP should give that away

Is your BIOS set to Legacy, UEFI, or both? Do you see the M4 in the list of boot devices in the BIOS?
-
Bios is set to both legacy/uefi m4 is not an option as boot device in the boot area in bios.

Be sure to scroll down the list of device included (at the top) and excluded (at the bottom). If you see it in the excluded list, make sure to add it then move it in the include list right after the CD/DVD drives or USB devices you plan to boot from for install. -
I had a similar problem after I dropped my X220 (oops), it wasn't getting detected whilst it was in the case but if I took it out and connected it to a desktop it worked fine.
I stuck selotape to the inside of the case to stop anything on the pcb touching the metal on the inside of the case and it has worked fine since. -
you taped the inside of the SSD?
Could I use electrical tape instead?
It was not in there at all
.

if you put smaller screws in, take them out. see if it works with just rubber rails. if it does, put the screws back in more loosely. worked for me...
-
I think you're right ... it's probably contacting the metal frame now that I took the rubber out. I'll put a strip of electrical tape in it, and screw it back on. Should provide enough buffer.
-
That fixed it...3 strips of electrical tape across the chips.

I am trying to install win 7 off a usb drive, BIOS detects my new ssd, but windows does not ... I also tried pre-loading the AHCI drivers (old school), and it still does not detect it, is there something else I need to do?
-
No idea. I just restored the factory image using recovery DVDs, and that worked fine for me. Sorry.

Makes sure the USB stick is in the yellow powered USB port not the blue USB 3.0 port. -
Why would that matter? There's no issues with the USB, it's the SSD not showing up during the setup/install.
I've tried all USB ports. -

I see in the other thread it worked. To answer your question, the USB 3.0 port only works (worth a damn) when Windows is running and the driver is initialized.
It matters because I said it matters.
