I've been looking for a laptop for university, and I finally narrowed it down to the x220. However, reading up on llano and ivy bridge, I was wondering if I should pull the trigger or wait. The only reason I would wait for llano or ivy bridge is to play Starcraft 2, but I'm also getting a gaming desktop, so I don't know if the wait is worth it.

Another question: Will the Momentus XT fit inside the x220? How hard is it to replace the hdd?

if the only issue is gaming, then don't wait.

with regards to starcraft 2, every time I play it on a laptop, I'm wishing I could be playing it on my desktop - i think the screen is too small and the keyboard not ideal, if you are also getting a desktop then don't wait - imho

ivy bridge is a yr away, so you have to ask yourself it makes sense for you to wait, and cling to whatever it is you're using now, or defer. if it's just for a video game, then no. the reason i was considering waiting for ivy bridge was that as great as the x220 battery life is, ivy bridge is supposed to take it to a whole new level. At the end, the mastercard deal was too tempting, and i was too fed up with my current laptop (near 90 dec C temps, battery life of less than 2hrs now)
replacing hdd looks pretty simple, it's just a matter of finding a 7mm hdd or modifying an ssd to fit.

    Thanks for the responses.

Do you think this is a good deal for the x220, or should I wait for a better one?

I wouldn't say that's a good deal.. I got my system for $959 and it includes:

    2.7Ghz i7
    Premium HD LCD
    4GB Ram
    BT 3.0
    720p Webcam
    9-Cell

A week later I configured the same system for like $20 cheaper too -_-

Keep trolling forums for good deals, and you'll find them. I use Slickdeals: The Best Deals, Coupons & Discounts on Laptops, Computers, LCDs, TVs, Dell, HP, Apple, Amazon
