    Hello,
I called one shop today about x220 with i7 and I was told it was sold out (SK version) and they won't be available any more, but there will be new models announced in a week that could be available in one month.

Does anyone know if something of this is true?

Is it probable that the refreshed models will have TOLUD issues again?

I thought new models won't come out until Ivy Bridge.

    Very confused...

I do not know of a single source that points to a X220 refresh before ivy bridge is it, let alone in Slovakia.

I'm guessing they have no idea what they're talking about.

Maybe a new Sandy Bridge is going to be announced? Haven't heard from Intel.

Yeah, not going to happen. The mid-generation SB CPUs have already been released, and are drop-in replacements for the initial SB CPUs: that wouldn't merit a full refresh.

Ivy Bridge has been slightly delayed in any case, so we won't see a refresh of the X220 until at least March 2012. Likely the salesperson didn't know what he was talking about. Also, as Lenovo keeps the chassis design for about 2-3 generations on average (X200 & X201, X61 & X60, etc) before a complete refresh, IB will most likely be a simple specs update rather than a redesign.

With preconfigured TopSeller units, this can also mean there will be a new configuration with a different part number replacing the current configuration. These usually imply just minor configuration changes on the existing model, not a brand new release.

March release would probably mean Ivy Bridge but no windows 8?

Windows 8 release estimation is on september and I don't think notebook manufacturers will wait for it.

Ivy Bridge will come out in march/april so if we count april as realistic estimation then the new models will come out in July - it would mean 2+ months of waiting.

so it will be 2013 before we see a Windows 8 powered Thinkpad X2xxT.

The good news will be new design, Haswell CPU. I shall patiently wait.

    @ FinancialWar

I'm hoping to have a Windows 8 (Beta) powered ThinkPad X220 in Feb 2012 :)

(I'm not talking the Windows 8 Preview release.)

If it's anything like the Windows Vista and Windows 7 releases, MS will likely have a free upgrade program that rolls out to laptop purchases in the months before W8 is released.

The preview release of Win8 runs very well on the X220. My only complaint is the middle-button scroll isn't as smooth or as widely useful as on Win7.

if win 8 can use win 7 drivers than this isn't really an issue.

Ivy Bridge is expected out Q2 2012. Expect a X220 refresh then.

This year's CES is going to be LAME when it comes to computers. I remember last year how ridiculously impatient and excited I was for CES because computers are one of my greatest hobbies.

I would expect refresh to be not sooner than 1Q after release of Ivy Bridge.

Very well possible, but last year from what I remember the dual-core Sandy Bridge processors and X220 were released within a week of each other. The Quad-Core processors were released almost a month before hand. I could very well be wrong though.

I think you are not right as the info (2-3 months lag) was based on the info about x220 and sandy bridge from wikipedia that I've checked just few hours ago, but I'm too lazy to recheck it if I did not make a mistake :( :D
