x220 touchpad

Hello all,

I bought a x220 about a month ago and I've started using it for more serious work (I'm trying, at least).

The touchpad driver is horrible. Smartsense works relatively well sometimes, but it seems to "forget" its settings most of the time.

Sometimes the touchpad does indeed deactivate itself when the keyboard is used, sometimes it does not. Which means jumping mouse that moves my cursor when I'm trying to code.

I've tried both the lenovo rebranded driver and the original synaptics.

That with the subpar screen( yeah, IPS superior, incredible. I've heard them all. ty refresh rates (due to short-term ghosting it appears) and backlight bleeding is what I see) and filmsy construction of the notebook that is meant to save weight makes me very disappointed with this notebook, it's not up to the thinkpad standards that I remember of the early 2000.

I can't use the trackpoint for extended periods because of carpal tunnal problems.

Do you have similar problem with the touchpad? I've red the whole owner thread, took a couple of days. I saw some erratic touchpad reports, but not much.

If you do not have the same problem, how the hell are you placing your hands to avoid the touchpad? Or maybe it's just me that has problem with smartsense not behaving correctly?


PS: I will keep the notebook and I do start getting used to my other concerns, I wish I do not offend proud owners with this post that will lead to replies like "not happy? sell it and buy a mac, fanboy".

I've only had my cursor move once in the two weeks that I've had my X220 and I think that was because my thumb pressed down on the touch pad causing it to activate. I'm actually happy with the X220 touchpad. It's small no doubt, but you get used to it. I just wish that it was more sensitive to lighter touches, but it's not that bad really.

But to answer your question directly: no, I haven't really had an issue with the X220 touchpad and Smartsense.

With regards, to build quality, I can see what you mean. I plastic casing around the LCD is not flat at the bottom center and it bulges out on my X220. I've spoken to Lenovo and so I just need to send it in or take to to a depot nearby and have them service it. I just haven't decided which route I'm going to take and when I can spare my machine for a couple of days.

 

I've had constant clicking and mouse movement from the touchpad. I turned it off and use either the trackpoint or my bluetooth mouse.

However, I just received my new personal X220 today and I see none of the other issues you mention. My new IPS screen seems perfect and compared to my previous T420s is just flat out amazing.

I also have not seen those issues on the work one that I've been using - aside from the crappy non-IPS screen on it.

EDIT: And please don't buy a mac ;P

 

The reason why the trackpad deactivates itself while your typing is because of lenovo's palm rejection software. To remedy this issue, to to your mouse settings in control panel, trackpad, and turn down the palm rejection sensitivity down so you can use the trackpad while typing (or up so the mouse will never move if your using the keyboard).
