    hi everyone

so i just got a nice x220t, loving it so far, but there's something weird

the fingerprint reader seems to remain active even though the pc is turned off
when i swipe my finger on it, it turns on.

that's an interesting functionnality but what it does is just save me one tap on the power button, at the cost of battery life.

i'm not sure but i think that thing took 30% from my 6cell battery in 3 days of being turned off

i searched around in the bios and also in the thinkpad utilities in windows and couldn't find a way to turn that feature off

if it did indeed drain 30% and if it can't be disabled... i might just disabled fingerprint entirely. battery life is crucial to me

lemme know if you have any ideas

    thanks

edit: nevermind, i've been looking closer into the windows thinkpad utilities, and there is an option to turn it off.

now to figure out how much battery it actually drains. ill post back here in a few days.

On my T420s it drains ~5% overnight (~10h); I have disabled it, at this consumption rate it simply does not worth it.

I'm not sure in the tab version, but in my X220 laptop, I can disable it by going to Control Panel and searching for fingerprint, then in the fingerprint configuration program, un-check the "power on" feature..I can't remember off the top of my head these exact steps, but once I log into Win7 I can confirm..

    Edit: In Win7 now..go to:
    1. Control Panel
    2. Search on Fingerprint, and then click on Lenovo - Fingerprint Reader
    3. Inside the Lenovo application, make sure the Power On option isn't checked for any enrolled fingers.
    4. In Settings, un-check "Use fingerprint scan instead of power-on button.

I'm going to make sure this is the correct process, if not, I'll edit again and declare myself officially ignorant :)

Just to be clear: I have disabled "Use fingerprint scan instead of power-on button", otherwise I find fingerprint reader very useful. My BIOS is an year old, I'm curious if someone with the last BIOS version are facing this issue or not.

that's what i think it drained last night. ill test some more in this week.

yeah thats the setting i found after looking a little deeper into it
didn't think of this, thanks for pointing it out, might come in handy if i decide to turn it off later

i got the latest bios. the upgrade procedure is very easy, nextnextnext, y'know.

Ah... I wasn't even aware of this. I disabled fingerprint-power-on option now.

It should save me some battery life.

    Thanks!!

okay, 5-ish % of battery gone overnight again.
    so yeah that's disabled.

weird functionnality anyway. if i can use my finger to swipe a fingerprint reader, i can press a button :p
