Are you talking about the touchscreen taking over the digitizer? I've used the x200t for note taking for about a year (just got my x220t!) and I've learned to consciously make sure the pen is near the screen before I rest my wrist on the screen, as the touchscreen turns off when the pen is near. Sometimes I will lift my pen too high and my wrist will get a click in but it's no big deal.

when I had both my x200 & x201 tablets the feel was dependent on which screen protector I used. Some people don't even use one. its almost as easy as writing on paper. I do not have experience with one in the class room but I have been using a tab for years. I prefer paper but yet again I don't use one in the class room.
