Sometimes the brightness controls don't work after resuming from sleep/hibernate... meaning that I can't lower or increase the brightness.

All other Fn operations work (webcam controls, projector options, wifi, lock screen), so it's not the Fn button.

    Volume +/- also works.

I have to reboot to get them working again.

    Any suggestions?

    thanks

This happens. The fix is to turn off the display then turn it on again. I have my Windows Power Options set to turn off the display whenever I close the lid, so whenever this happens to me I just close it then open it and I can control the brightness again.

One gotcha with this fix is that even if you can control the brightness, you might not be able to see the level of brightness like you normally can with the Lenovo Onscreen Display. But at least you can control it.

For my vaio sa, something similar happens after several sleep cycles. I toggle autobrightness on/off to get it working again, another user uses the windows mobility center app to get it working again.

I know it's a different laptop and brand, but I hope it helped.
