I have seen a few posts already on this but there isnt any clear sound advice. I just bought a crucial 256gb msata ssd drive. Can I clone my system of my crappy 320gig HDD and then restore the image to the msata ssd drive? Will this cause problems? I hate to have to re-install all of my programs again but I will if cloning a HDD to SSD causes problems. Any help offered would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Use Acronis True Image 2013 and "move the bits" from your stock HDD to the new mSATA SSD. Everything will be taken care of for you.

    Welcome to the forum!

Indeed you may be able to clone the disk if it's to stay on the same computer.

Thank you for the welcome. :) what do you mean move the bits? Yes, I will be installing the msata SSD in the same laptop and keeping the stock hard drive.

Well, that's my way of saying "clone" or "backup/restore" the complete system image.

Quite likely. There are competing products that help you do the same thing.

You spent the money to buy the notebook and the upgrade parts and the accessories. Now spend the money to buy the software. :)

I find Easeus Todo Backup very good at migrating the OS, make sure you check the "optimize for SSD" option during the process. Alternatively you can also use Easeus Partition Master Home Edition which is also free.
