I just got the x230 and find it great, except the touchpad which nearly makes the computer unusable for me. The touchpad is very inaccurate and glitchy, plus there's the problem that the button area also is also the touchpad, which means when I click, the pointer often jumps.
I've seen several threads here and on other forums where some users say its not so bad and others say its unusable. (I've not seen any solutions). So my question is, are there faulty touchpads or are they all this way and some people just don't mind them as much?
If its the former, I'm going to return this unit for a replacement. If the later, I'll return it for a refund.

I played around with my X220 touchpad (same unit I think) for a while. It's pretty precise and works quite well at getting the mouse around. I use the trackpoint day to day though, and suggest you do too.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Try running System Update and getting the latest driver.

I would agree the touch pad is serviceable, but not near the best ones on the market. I thought the touch pad on the X230 was if anything better than my X220i. They must have worked on the drivers. This might be worth a look if you're looking for ways to improve the experience. The stick is the best mousing device ever in my opinion. Some take to it right away, other need time and some will never use them. If you commit to using it, you may find you like it.

Do you remember what changes you made to improve performance? I've been using touchpads for years, so I'd rather get a new computer with a decent touchpad then learn a new interface.
I've upgrade to the latest drivers. -
If you are a fan of multifinger gestures, TwoFingerScroll is an utility that improves 2F scrolling and other multi finger gestures
Also, play around with the touchpad settings. The defaults usually suck (this applies for the Trackpoint as well if you ever want to try using it). You might also want to give Synaptic's generic drivers a try. -
The touchpad has been bad since X220. I've had it replaced once but still it mistakes among left-click, right-click and double click. I've sold it for T420s.

I have an X220 and while I can't say it's good I can say it's not so bad that I want to smash it to bits like I have wanted to other touchpads. I updated the driver and got rid of all gestures and it works a lot smoother than out of the box. I really have no use for the gestures and the touchpad is really too small to take advantage of.

I don't know if it's just me, but at work, we just got X230, T430, 4x E435, and 2x E330. The X230 has the worst touchpad. The pointer is jiggly and it's hard to click. The T430 has the best probably because it has actual separate buttons. One of the E330 can't right click, when I brought it back to the store to exchange, we found out the store display unit couldn't right click either.

Can someone let me know if I'm unlucky or if this is common to all x230s? My cursor jumps about 4 pixels at a time when I try to move it in any direction. In effect, this makes it very jerky and at times difficult to select/click the desired item. I've attempted several of the recommended fixes to no avail...
