im sorely behind on the upgrade cycle at this point with my x230 so hoping nvme comes around in this version...with 2tb nvme sticks out already there aren't any longer capacity issues vs msata

Will there be an x270? It's like the X1 carbon has filled its space. The thickness of the x260 is much due to components like mechanical harddrive but if you don't want that you can make as thin as the X1. Then again a full 45W CPU could be used.

The carbon is 14 inch and not 12 and it has a lot of typical 'thinkpad features' which the carbon lacks due to its ultrabook style and form factor.

I'm in the same boat. Does anybody when Lenovo's next event is where they might announce new hardware? It's been very quiet around a possible x270.

Probably at CES in January 2017 - like this year.

They could shave another .5 lb with materials and update the internals. I am not alone in loving real life ports, so there will always be a market for a notebook like the x2x0. IMO

Would be great if they return x2X0 tablets with rotating hinge, too. Not likely to happen, but one can dream...

This statement doesn't make sense unless 'it' refers to the X2x0 series.

Should be announced at CES in early January and available for purchase by late March / early April. Will probably be mostly unchanged from the x260, but with Kaby Lake and possibly a thinner frame if they move from the 2.5" SSD form factor to M2. If they somehow fit a 13.3" matte IPS screen with 16:10 aspect ratio into the existing footprint then this laptop will be a dream come true...

It makes no sense to compare the x270 to the Carbon.
The main reason I have my x250 is battery life. I do not carry a charger anymore.
    Usability trumps specs.

the specs for x270 have been announced but im still not clear on whether it comes with a M.2, 2.5" or both,....but it is a fact that it supports NVME

    "
    Storage
Up to 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD
    SSD:
    128GB SATA TLC (2.5”)
    128GB SATA MLC
    256GB OPAL2 PCIe NVMe Intel®
    256GB OPAL2 PCIe TLC NVMe
    512GB OPAL2 PCIe NVMe Intel®
    512Gb OPAL2 PCIe TLC NVMe
    1TB OPAL2 TLC NVMe"

just reading through those specs my GUESS would be that it has NO 2.5" slot but DOES have a full-size M.2 NVMe slot
