So I have to buy a new laptop and I'm at the point where I have to make a choice between buying whats available to me now (the x61s) or wait for the x300. I want to wait for the x300 but if it will be outside my price range it will be a total waste of time waiting for it not to mention the in convince of being with out a laptop for so long so my question is does anyone have a guesstimate of what the x300 will cost both with a solid state drive and with a hard drive instead and if you can please give an approximate error in your answer (ie +- $500). And last but not least how far is it usually between a thinkpads release in the US and the release overseas?
For those who don't know what the x300 is

It depends when the x300's coming out. Like the Macbook air, the solid state adds almost 1000 dollars to the price. My guess is the ssd will cost you at least 500 more for a 64gb drive.

First of all, the x61s and the x300 are quite different machines. You should decide which machine is best for you and get that one.
The x61s has a significantly smaller footprint than the x300 and we know right now that the x61s is very reasonably priced ($~1000).
The x300 includes an optical drive, has a larger footprint, and will likely be significantly more expensive than the x61s. I would say the x300 will start at the very least $~1500
Also, it looks as though there is NO option for a mechanical HDD in the x300 - only a SSD will fit. -
The x300 looks like a really sweet machine. I like it way more than the Macbook Air. Maybe that makes me a Thinkpad fanboy
If I had to guess, probably in the range of $2500-3000
x300 is feature packed compared to the x61s
Higher res screen
optical drive
ssd drive
touchpad
4gb ram (according to the link)
2.5 lbs - still very lightweight -
I guess X300 will be like the price of Sony Vaio SZ series.

I heard a bit north of $2k, but don't quote me. The SSD is what's going to jack the price up. Too bad they're not going to offer some regular drives.
-
Well, if you buy a stock of things, then the price goes down. It looks like many major notebook companies are planing to sell notebooks with SSD. The SSD price must go done, when in such a way it is becoming a "high-end mainstream".

you can get the x61 for a good price with the 15% off coupon. Check out the bargain forum for the thread with the coupon

I agree that although it is too bad that the price will be jacked up because of the SSD, it is good that a few large manufacturers seem to be trying to make SSD standard so that the prices will fall. If indeed the price is just over $2k, I would say that the X300 would be a good value.

wouldn't you think the SSD would be a choice made during the configuration process on the website. I would think that you could choose hard drive type just like you always have been able to do, and that you would see a big price jump from the high end standard hard drive to the SSD.
OOPS Read first then post...................My bad
