The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. 1) Does the x300 have a PC Express or other card slot? I might want to add ATT Mobility 3G card at some later date. If the x300 doesn't, makes the 50% less expensive x61s look mighty attractive. I am getting rather fond of the backlit screen however.

    2) How does one Search the threads in this forum?

    Thanks!

    1) No

    2) You need 100 posts for some stupid reason.

It's not a stupid reason. The servers have been having issues lately, and search had to be disabled temporarily. Read me.

^ I understand the search issue, but I don't understand how limiting the feature to those with 100 posts helps. If anything, those who are new to the site have more of a need to search. Maybe I'm mistaken and the search feature is deactivated for all users now, I'm not sure. But it used to be limited to those with 100 posts.

For the time being, google will have to be used for search.
I think it was disabled for non senior members to reduce the workload on the servers, since there are less senior members than junior. :) But any mod feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. :)

I respectfully disagree, it is kind of a stupid reason. The 2 or 3 posts that I have made could have been answered without me having to start a thread if there was a search feature. Repeated threads equals more threads for the search engine to chew on. Plus, it would have saved me hours of time going back through pages and pages of threads learning about the x300 and x61s.

The admins probably know how to run the forums better than you. Another forum I visit has disabled the search feature. Maybe it takes an inordinate amount of bandwidth? Or probably vBulletin really sucks.

Right. The people who have for a long time now run the premiere site for notebooks discussion on the web have no clue what they're doing.

This blind loyalty is kinda cute, but it would be nice if someone actually knew the reason why.

Unfortunately, for many like myself, the forum's usefulness is greatly diminished without search. I research more than I post and I suspect that's a pretty common member behavior. Then again, some have 100 posts like myself and still can't search a specific forum.

Please keep this thread on-topic, thanks. Questions about the forum itself should go in the Site Suggestions forum.
