I've had quite a few laptops and since I got this x301 it's really grown on me. A pleasure in every respect, great keyboard, fast I need for 90% of my work, the size and weight makes it perfect for travel and it has a small footprint on your desk.

I'm able to create fairly complex 3D drawings with no sluggishness even with the low speed processor, that surprised me a bit.

I have the x301 with the 128 SSD, loaded to the max, it's so such a pleasure to use, it's worth the money if you can get it sale for sure.

I've made my fair share of rant posts, so I thought it was time to rave a little :) I was so disappointed with my Sony Z , this is a nice change and I'm finally happy with my notebook.

Nice, I ordered an X300 a few days ago, so this is good to hear :D. Now if only it would ship faster... ;)

BTW, what was wrong with the Sony Z for you (just wondering in case I might consider buying one some day)?

for me with the Z the more I used it the more I disliked it, namely the keyboard, clickly/loud space bar, double triple typing like iii when you hit the i key once, also the stubby screen, very loud fan and it never had the speed it should of had considering it was performance spec's, (Z570 was what I had) ....

I'm was so glad to get rid of it, lost a fair bit on money selling it but that's the pc/gadget game :)

the x301 makes up for it

Hate to say it, but Sony is really more “business chic” than anything else.

Exactly—you don’t. The only time you might ever see one is when some “rogue” executive bought one and though he might know what he was doing.

Sony's not that bad though. Their new models may have some issues, but I have a SZ750 and I have no complaints. Screen quality is excellent, battery life is excellent, heat management is excellent, weight is good, build quality is excellent, etc. The reason I'm switching to an X300 is because I want a laptop with a trackpoint, and I want something a little lighter and I don't need all the power my SZ has.

In fact, I'm a little concerned that Lenovo's quality will be more problematic than my Sony. I've been reading some reports of freezing issues, bluescreens, etc. on the X300 due to bad hardware or something, so I only hope I get lucky and get a good unit.

Can you elaborate on the fan noise more of your Vaio Z vs the X301? I am happy with the vaio Z except for the fan noise. It is really way too much. I hear complaints about the X300's fan, so I'm skeptical. For reference, my W500/T500 is virtually silent. I don't mind a pleasant whoosh. I just dislike the constant ramping on and off.

does it make much difference having dual channel on the x300?

i've got freesez on my x300 (early 2009), one while going to sleep, one while browsing the web.. but eversince since i dont put em to sleep anymore, no such issue again... for now.

To the new X301 owner at the top ... how is the screen resolution? Can you read the letters OK or are they minuscule in Word documents and expecially in Internet Explorer or other browsers. I know in theory you can make it all a bit bigger but never quite works with images etc ... I wish they had an X301 with 1280 x 800 resolution. Here in Europe it's impossible to see before you buy, Lenovo only on-line and not in stores ...

I have an X300 which has pretty much the same screen as the X301, and I think the resolution is perfect. I've heard people complain about the text size on the Vaio Z which is 1600x900 on a 13.1" screen, but 1440x900 on a 13.3" for me at least is excellent. Even small text is perfectly readable, and the extra desktop space is really nice. Going back to 1280x800, everything seems really cramped and text overly large, so I definitely like it.
