I ordered a x301 few days ago, and the part number is 2776P6U.
It come with window XP, but I am not sure if it is a vista downgrade or what? Anyone know that?
And, I would like to install window 7 after I got it.
I used to own a Asus laptop with Vista business.
Its hard to downgrade to XP (need to make a boot disc or something); therefore, I give up and sold the machine.
My question is can I just install window 7 easily as everyone upgrade from vista?
Thanks

It is the Vista downgrade because you can't buy XP anymore as a stand alone product. If it's the downgrade XP should already be installed. All of the applications and drivers should be located in the SWTools folder or you can download them from Lenovo site. Windows 7 has even been released. I wouldn't get worked up over it until it does.

Thank you so much!
I would also like to know about the battery life on window XP and Vista since 6 cells on X301 only last for 3-4 hours by using save mode.
I have looked up couples of threats but I am confused that some people said XP have more battery life than vista while others said Vista is better. -

The X301 spec sheet doesn't differentiate between XP/Vista for battery life. It just shows the 6-cell as lasting "up to 6.1hrs".
The X200 and X200s, however, do show separate XP and Vista figures. For the X200, the 6-cell lasts 'up to' 6.5hrs in XP vs. 'up to' 6.2hrs in Vista. The X200s with 6-cell is 'up to' 8.8hrs in XP and 'up to' 8.3hrs in Vista. So the difference is 0.3 to 0.5hrs, or 18 to 30 minutes.
So it's reasonable to estimate that the battery could last up to 30 minutes longer in XP than in Vista. BEST Case Scenario, perfect setting....
If you factor in variables such as which Vista features are enabled/disabled, Vista's superior power plan customization and numerous other variables...the difference is likely negligible. Perhaps 15 minutes or less?
