does anyone know if the 3rd antenna will be there and if they are swapable?

the x301 MTM's (preconfigured models) all have the intel 5100 and I think I want the intel 5300. Since it dont want to order a CTO model, that means I am stuck with ordering the x301 with the 5100.

You can swap only if the x301 has the third antenna (grey in color). It also depends on if that antenna can actually reach the adapter. In the case of my U330, I had to move a few wires around and free up the second mini pci-e slot.

Check the Lenovo ipbook to see if the X301 has the third antenna and whether it uses half-mini or full-height mini-pci-e cards.

why would it matter if it uses half-mini or full-height mini-pci-e cards? since it already will have the intel 5100 in it.. and the x301 has an option with the CTO model for the 5300, it would be reasonable that the slot would be OK for either.. its a matter of it the x301s are all being put together with the 3rd antenna or not.. which I was hoping someone here would know...

I think I was able to answer my own question.. looking at the HMM for the x301, there is only 1 antenna part FRU# listed, which indicates that the 3 wire version is there regardless.. so I think its safe to say I can just swap it out (depending on the cost of the part)...

Full-height and half-height mini cards are NOT interchangeable. This is just speculation- but I am thinking the X301, given the small size of the notebook, uses half-height cards. Please refer to the Lenovo IPbook to be sure; it might also answer your question about the number of antennae. I assume that for ease of upgrade the X301 has three antennae preinstalled, but you know how the saying goes...
