I just need to confirm that the x3100 can run both the laptop screen and a monitor at the same time, extended desktop of course. I havn't found the answer after googling and some searches. My dad is looking into a t61 and he would like the ability to use both screens, but I don't think he needs the nvidia card. Thanks.

Even the weakest of GPUs (aka the Intel ones) are capable of driving two or three monitors at once. The GMA 900 can (I know from personal experience), the GMA 950 can, and I'm 99.999% sure the X3100 can. Its a feature in GPUs that is just plain required.

Ok, that's what I thought and I just wanted to be 100%. Thanks a bunch.

Hi, I have a quick question. My girlfriend bought a laptop (not thinkpad) which was supposed to come with Intel X3100. However, when I look in devices, the graphic device is named Intel 965, not X3100. Searching on internet, I couldn't find out if 965 is the same as X3000, or X3100 or what else. So, what is Intel 965 and does it support 64bit operational systems?

I wonder at this too. Here's a link from Intel's site. I would say the 965 encompasses a whole array of motherboard components of which the X3100 is just the part that deals with integrated graphics. But the 965 as you can see also includes PCI Express x16 connectivity for example if you wanted a discrete graphics solution, although I guess it can be tricky to do an aftermarket graphics upgrade yourself on a laptop.

In this case the 965 would seem to be effectively synonymous with X3100 graphics since it comes with no other options, but the converse is probably not true.

By the way, regarding the original post of this thread, I have a Thinkpad X61 with the 965 chipset and X3100 graphics and I can indeed extend the main XGA display to an external display -- the 24" HP w2408 at full 1920x1200 resolution (but only with VGA, alas) -- without any problems.
