I'm considering buying X61 as a desktop replacement and was wondering if the x61 can output widescreen (both through the s-video and VGA), and also if its cpu and gpu can play 1080p HD movies?

Hm...do you know what screen resolutions it comes in?? With that size screen I highly doubt that it can but if you find the screen resolution simply see if the second number in the resolution is 1080 or more because all that 1080p means is that there are 1080 lines of vertical display resolution. Hope that helps. :D

S-video won't have enough bandwidth to output 1080p videos but VGA will be able to.

    hey shoelace_510,
I was mainly referring to the processing power ... Would the x61 withstand decoding 1080p movie?
Regarding the resolution- hopefuly when connected to an external screen, it would be able to output some HD compliant resolution.... :)

Yes it will be able to decode 1080p. It is plenty powerful enough for that.

    Another good question to ask:

    Can it play Doom?

I've played 1080p content on my X60s so my X61s can for sure.

I don't know about using VGA output though...never tried.

No svideo option on the X61, but the VGA will be more than capable for outputting wide screen signals to your favorite HDTV.
