ok i installed a 2nd HD using the ultrabase adapter, and it installed and i can see there's a 2nd HD in device manager and it even shows its got 95 something gigs of space but there's nothing in "my computer", am i missing something? do i need software to use it?

edit: in device manager it says "status: not initialized" under the device, the device reads as
ST9100824AS, under "disk drives", is that the adapter or the hard drive itself?

    go to
control panel -> administrative tools -> computer management

You'll see a window with two panes, select "disk management" from the left pane. Now, on the bottom right pane you should see a list of all your drives. Right click the "free space" bar for drive that is not initialized (probably "Disk 1") and make a new partition from it.

omg "windows was unable to complete the format" GRRR

i tried doing a quick format and it fails every time, im trying a normal format right now, but why wouldnt quick format work?

edit: normal formatting is taking FOREVER i think when i wake up it'll still be formatting

don't know about that. Could be a hardware issue. You could try formatting that drive in another computer. Or put the Seagate in your main drive bay and Boot using Windows XP/Vista CD and format it.

last question, power settings apply to the 2nd HDD equally? i.e. if i have HD's set to "always on" in power management that will apply to the ultrabase drive right?
