Received x61 with vista home basic, uninstall vista and reinstalled xp pro. Then I installed system update from Lenovo, did online update, including BIOS update. But now I end up with a computer that can't restart automatically, xp shuts down normally, then all indicators except for the bluetooth, battery, plug, and the Z ones are off, but the system will freeze right there, after couple of seconds, the computer beeps 6 times, and then freezes for ever. Have to power off the computer with the power button.

Same thing happens even if I just enter the BIOS and change any setting and exit. If I don't change any setting and exit, sometimes it is fine.

Already tried to downgrade the BIOS, no help at all.

    Shutdown is fine though.

    Any help or suggestion?

    Thanks,

It sounds like it's having a problem with reloading Windows? Often those beeps and/or flashing lights mean something. Try this, and if that doesn't help, maybe contact Lenovo and ask them about that particular model?

If you're reinstalling XP Pro, then use the guide in my signature.

Thanks, I think this is my problem

One short beep, pause, three short beeps, pause, three more short beeps, and one short beep.

    1. DIMM
    2. System board

so, either my A-DATA 2GB DIMM is bad or the system board is bad now.

Just want to let you guys know, I solved the problem :D
I used to have two sticks of RAMs, the ADATA is on the second one. I just tried to move it to the first slot and the problem SOLVED. Damn, I spent the whole afternoon and evening working on that, :(
