Hi all, I am thinking to get a X61 and Ultrabase and I never bought a thindpad? Your experence input is highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    1. Does X61 supports 1920x1200 mode through its VGA port?
Sorry it may be a dumb question? but just want to make sure? Does X6 UltraBase has a VGA port that also support 1920x1200?

Edit: [thanks to pmtr, I found this forum confirmed 1920x1200 indeed work on x61,
    http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=46777&highlight=1920]

    2. Anybody used the SATA HD Ultrabay with the X6 Utlrabase docking station?
It is not listed under x61 accessories PDF but listed as option in lenovo custom built web site. Is it really supported?
How is the performance? Does it give real SATA performance? e.g. how fast to copy and read 1GB?

    3. I remember I read in this forum if one purchase window Vista Business, it automatically included XP Prof downgrade CD? I asked the Lenovo Canada Sale Rep they said I need to buy for XP Pro recovery CD? The Lenovo Canada web site confirmed though.

Is this free included XP Pro recovery CD offered expired or just for Lenovo US or even you cannot pay to get one (expire Jan 31, 2008 according to the web site)?

Edit:[thanks to slickrck68, he confirmed US order in Dec but anyone from Canada, purchased recently (Jan/Feb/March 2008) has the free XP CD with the purchase Visa Business?]

ultrabase does have vga support...not sure about the 1920x1200 question. I bought business and I downgraded to XP pro (paid for it)...but turns out my laptop came with the recovery disks for XP pro which seems odd to me.

The XPP discs are there for those who want to convert back to XPP as it is the operating system of the majority of businesses. So since you purchased Vista Business, you get the option to downgrade to XP as well.

Did you purchase from U.S or Canada? When did you purchase your x61? This is why I am confused. The lenovo web site say we need to pay and same as sale rep but you got a XP recovery CD for free when you purchased Vista Business?

I misread the web site actually this "paid" offer expired Jan, 2009 (not 2008) from URL below
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=VSTA-DWNGRD
It just does not make sense? If I order now, in a month will I get XP Pro CD? Anyone bought x61 this month or two? Or Lenovo tries to earn some extra$ from us?

    Thanks for sharing the info

I really concerned about this since I recently purchased a 28 inch 1920x1200 monitor. It will be pretty bad if it is not display in native mode and plus x61 does not have DVI output and only through VGA analog port.

Could you do a quick check: right click on desktop > Properties > Settings. Under Screen Resolution, Do you see 1920x1200?

Does x61 support simultaneous LCD and monitor display? If so, what will happen if I select 1920x1200 for monitor and what happens to XGA (1024x768) laptop LCD display (does it rescale to fit screen)? I never used Intel x3100. I only have ATI and Nivdia laptops before.

Is the VGA image clear and sharp on your monitor in high resolution?

Thanks. You guys are great... I can get answer so quick..

Keep in mind that the max resolution displayed depends on what monitor you have connected. If you hook up a 15'' XGA LCD, it will only display up to 1024x768 even though it's capable of sending out a much higher resolution.

I've got an X61T (SVGA+, 1400x1050) connected to a 22'' widescreen (1680x1050) and it works fine for me.

Don't worry about not having DVI. My dad has a T60 with a DVI dock and the image quality on his 22'' is about the same as mine.

Edit: Yes, it supports display mirroring and extended desktop. If you choose extended desktop (spans desktop across two monitors), you will be able to adjust the resolution of each monitor independently.

exactly...the highest my 22" monitor does is: 1680x1050...and it works fine.

Great to hear it can do display mirroring and The laptop LCD "lower" resolutions does not have to match the "higher" resolutions monitor.
But one question is still unclear to me: Does Intel x3100 on X61 or x61t support 1920x1200 mode? I checked intel web site Intel x3100 does not list out all the modes but states the max ( 2xxx x 1xxx ). I know some video card skip some of modes (e.g. 1920x1200).

****Could you or anyone do a quick check?
Right click on desktop area> Properties > Settings. Under Screen Resolution, select the slider. Do you see 1920x1200 listed? ***

I know on some video cards ---depends whether your LCD supported (e.g. 1920x1200) or not will limit what you can see on the Screen Resolution slider.

    Thanks for the info.

1920x1200 can be not listed if the current monitor does not support this resolution. That does not mean that the video card cannot support it.

Thanks Darius_LT. I realized that but on my two other laptops: one with ATI and one with Nivida. They both can listed out all the mode even though the Monitor does not support it... I guess Intel x3100 does not have this feature?

right click on desktop > Properties > Settings. Under Screen Resolution, Do you see 1920x1200?

or perhaps a better approach will be:

right click on desktop > Properties > Settings tab. Click Advanced button. Click Adapter tab. Click List All Modes... Is 1920 x1200 listed?

    Thanks.
