I'm a college student about to buy my first laptop. Looking at the x61 and the x61s, I had a few concerns:
1. Are the viewing angles/brightness of the screen poor on the x61?
2. Is there a sharp performance difference between the low voltage processors in the x61s compared to the x61?
3. Has anyone had trouble acclimating to the lack of a touchpad?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone has to offer~!

If battery life is of no concern, I'd get an S with the slim 4 cell and the 1.8 processor. This way you get a machine that runs cooler, has a brighter screen, and is slightly lighter than an X61. For me, I love the trackpoint and don't even use an external mouse with my x61s.

Thx slick~ Any other opinions? I'm leaning towards the "s"

i use a wireless mouse with my x61s. The trackpoint cramps my hand with heavy use. but i used a wireless mouse with all my prior laptops that had touchpads.

If battery life is not an issue:
x61 has the better processor and is less expensive.
x61s has a better screen option (slighty?) and is insignificantly lighter.
Depends what applications you will be using. If your are in engineering and need to use cad programs etc.... the computing power of the x61 will be superior. If you are doing word processing, presentations and standard spreadsheet work the processor on the x61s will be adequate.
If battery life was not an issues for me, I'd save te money and go for the the x61. However, I haven't seen the ultrabright screen on the x61s, so I don't know if it is worth it. -
Thx for the help fellas, I think I've made my decision~

Screens alright, but not outstanding.
x61 or x61s - Battery life is not an issue
