Hello everyone. I can't decide between x61 (since it's a penryn) and x61s (longer battery life). Here are the specs

    x61
    Core 2 Duo T8300 2,4 GHz, 3MB L2, 800MHZ FSB
    3GB RAM
    160GB 7200rpm
    Intel Memory Turbo 1GB
Bluetooth, Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
ThinkPad X61 4 Cell Enhanced Capacity Battery
    ~1100 $

    x61s
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo L7700 LV (1.8GHz, 4MB L2, 800MHz FSB
    3GB RAM
    160GB 7200rpm
    Intel Memory Turbo 1GB
Bluetooth, Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
ThinkPad X61s 4 Cell Enhanced Capacity Battery
    ~1260$

Is there a big difference in performance, heat dissipation, and battery life? (at the moment there're only 4 cell batteries so I'm going to buy an 8-cell one extra).

    Thank you in advance.

I would go with the X61.....not that much of a difference in size, but MUCH better performance due to mainstream Penryn CPU....which will run cooler and more efficiently than the 65nm Merom in the X61s.

So, actually the x61 is going to be more power efficient? Can someone please back this up?

That's not true. The TDP of the T8300 is double the TDP of the L7700. The difference in battery life will be less drastic, but you can still expect more for the x61s. It all comes down to what's most important for you: battery or performance.

don't know about the X61s but my wife just got a new X61 with T8100, 2G RAM, 7200rpm hard drive, and windows XP, and it lasts for a solid 7 hours with the 8-cell battery. I can't help but feel jealous; my T61 lasts barely 3 hours... (of course, they're not in the same category, but still)

I've ordered the x61 with a 8cell battery. 7 hours are more than enough. Thank you!

Anyone know how long does the 4-cell last on X61? Thinking of getting one with T8300, but lenovo website does not offer 8-cell upgrade anymore :(

I don't know how your wife can get 7 hours out of it. Are you going by the estimated battery life according to the battery icon? I have the T8300 2.4Ghz CPU and i can only get 5.5 hours with wifi on and set to Max Battery Life

I agree with slickrick68. I own the X61 (stats in the sig) and it's been the best computer purchase I've ever made. I don't think you can make a bad decision!
