Hello,
Just took advantage of the one day only employee discount sale and ordered a x61. The total is 1193.05 Cdn. I thought it was an excellent deal.
Here is the spec:
Core2Duo T8100 Processor
1dimm 1gig ram
80gig 5400 RPM HDD
4-Cell Battery
Integrated Fingerprint
Intel abgn wireless card
Vista business 32bit
I bought this as a secondary laptop.( I have a mbp ) I got some questions to exsisting users of the x61:
1.) Is the laptop loud?
2.) Is there a high frequency cpu whine?
3.) How is the trackpoint? For trackpad users out there, do you guys hate the track point? Do you ever use it?
I really liked the idea of the netbooks, but after playing around with a couple of them, I am not impressed with their build quality. I rather spend more on a solid laptop than to spend 500-600 on a crappy laptop that is going to die on me in 1 year.
Thanks

I'll take a shot.
It is not loud. The CPU fan does not come on often and when it does it is not loud, kind of a low pitched whine. Then, atleast mine which is also an 80GB, is silent. I have yet to hear in the couple days I have had it.
For the Trackpoint, I actually like it. This was what scared me the most about buying this notebook. I had never used one and didn't really know what to expect. But after a day of heavy use I really like it. The middle scroll button is a Godsend. I went to install some software on my wife's XPS 1530 and suddenly hated the trackpad, especially the tiny scroll zones.
I had also considered a netbook but my concern was more performance oriented. -
Thank you very much for your reply! I also tried using the trackpoint on one of my friend's t60. I thought it was too sensitive. Anyhow I will be using my vx nano most of the time so I don't think it should be an issue.
Glad to hear that the computer is not loud. I am very sensitive to sound. Over the past 2 years I have had about 5 laptops, 4 of which I have returned because they emit a high frequency sound or really loud fan noise.
BTW, does all x61 come standard with bluetooth? I just realize that I was never given the option to configure mine with one. -
I think it was an option but I'm not sure, I bought mine used and it had it though.

Is there anyone out there who doesn't have the CPU whine? I just emailed lenovo to cancel the order but they are closed; hopefully I can cancel it in time. -
i dont hear cpu whine on my x61s
-
Cancelled it this morning.
Hmm.. It seems like all laptops have this problem except for the new core2 macbook pros. If you go to google and type in high pitch noise you will get thousands of complaints -
You also have to keep in mind most people that take to effort to come online are there to complain. When everything is working fine you don't hear a peep out of them. But when the smallest thing goes wrong they are on a soapbox screaming for all to see. You have several users here not reporting any problems and I have not seen any reviews that mentioned this problem.
Also you need to consider usage. If you are doing CPU intensive tasks you are going to here a fan whine. It has to get heat out of the system, there is no way around it. But if you are just surfing the web and doing Microsoft Office you shouldn't here a hardly anything. -
I haven't got my x61t yet (it's coming soon!) but I think the whine you're talking about is due to the C2D processor. It's very noticable (for me) on my sister's XPS M1330. After some googling, I did find a solution, which was to turn off some power saving features on the processor, and it works pretty well, at the cost of a slight decrease in battery life.
x61 ordered, need advices Thank you
