I am looking to replace a stolen t60 with and x61 tablet i do some photoshop work (mainly croping and image adjustment ) as well as hd video editing(stiching different scenes togther and cutting stuff out) my concern is that the x3100 in the notebook along with the proccesor wouldn't be able to handle that. any thoughts i would really like a tablet pc but not if i can't do the above tasks reasoonably well.

Your processes will mainly be processor dependent. The photo editing you mention would not necessitate gpu supported filters. Be more concerned with resolution and processor power.

So it seems that even if i have enought ram and a 7200rpm hard drive i will still have trouble with video and picture editing? i also saw your ssd drive listed as a samsung slc is that what they but in all thinkpads?

Video editing would like be the main issue at hand since that takes the most CPU processing. However it really just depends how much you are depending on this machine. If it is just on the go it might serve its purpose having a great screen and tablet function. We recently saw an x61t on the outlet that had a Tseries CPU clocked at 2.4ghz...which might have been a typo.
Regarding the SSD, I believe lenovo started to use samsung MLCs for when they had SSDs on "sale." Really they were just lowering the price and giving people a lower cost component. So unfortunately I cannot say for sure what types of drives they give now. -
The video is where you might run into trouble. It is unlikely that the GPU will hold you back, as only a handful of apps (mostly 3D rendering, CAD, and games) are GPU bound. However, many video editing tasks (especially compression) are CPU bound.
That being said, the x61 Tablet will certainly be able to accomplish any task you throw at it. However, some tasks (e.g. a video encode) would take longer on a x61 with a low voltage processor vs. a T or W series with a standard voltage processor at double the clock speed and cache size.
An SSD and/or 7200RPM hard drive is also worth considering. If the HD video files you work with are at an extremely high bitrate you may find yourself buffered by the hard drive before the CPU even becomes an issue (mostly true for lossless edits and/or cuts).
If at all possible you should try and pick up a SXGA+ version of the x61 tablet. This will provide much more room for the type of work you plan on doing than a standard XGA screen. -
taking longer will not be bad as long as it does it eventually. that is excatly what i wanted to know. i may look into a ssd drive as well and use a second drive and the base to store larger data. i also have started to look at lenovo resellers instead of buying direct from lenovo and i may be able to get a x200 which has a better processor. thank you all for the advice
