    Hi,

I am asking again. I am really curious about this problems.

In very silent room alone, I feel a little vibration and noise

,then cpu fan starts. this is ok when in little lousy library and

classroom but if i am in my room alone, this is kind of annoyed. :(

You may have to pay little attention to laptop and put hand on palmrest.

I might be sensitve but I wanna know this is normal.

This is like a car engine got start, making vibration.

I used a tpfancontrol to turn on and off the fan on purpose.

Anyone experienced like me? I am considering sending this one to

    repair.

    Thanks.

I have not heard of this before on a X61, let alone a ThinkPad. However as you stated yourself, maybe you are more sensitive than others.

My Thinkpad x61 does exactly that and I find it really annoying!!
Virtually no fan noise for most of the time but perhaps every 10 mins to half an hour the fan will make a short, low whir noise when changing speeds (although it can sometimes go extended periods without a peep).

I think its more likely to do with the bearing and the fan finding a particular resonance than it just catching something. I'm not that comfortable taking my tablet apart to have a look, but I've been sorely tempted a few times.

I know its a small thing, but its the little things that get under your skin! Apart from this my x61 (multi touch, 1GB, 1.6Ghz) is far and away the best pc I've ever used.

I would be great to know if anyone has got to the bottom of this small albeit really annoying problem.

X61s here, and exactly the same thing. I wasn't sure if it was just my laptop, so it's good to hear others experiencing the same thing!

I should say, it sounds to me like it makes the noise when the fan is spinning down.

    Hi,

I am still experiencing same thing. I read some posts from other web sites. They said there was a vibration but everything was not sure like us. Someone mentioned about a bearing problem. I dont know if I am feeling this symptom because I am too sensitive.

If i have to send this laptop to lenovo, it will be very annoyed, too. No idea.

if you want to fix the problem search the forum key words "CPU whine".. they'll show you the steps to fix it.. i havent try it myself 'cause the noise x61 makes is so tiny it's not worth it
